Norma African PH 550gr for lott
Does anyone have any experience of these rounds on DG? I have a lott and am looking for the best possible penetrating solids.

I haven't used the factory Norma load on elephant but I have used the same bullet from my Lott in hand loads. No 500 grain bullet no matter what make will out penetrate it on ele from my experience. Buy a box and see what velocity you get from the Norma ammo. If over 2,100 fps, go with comfort!

Ive used the bullet in handloads, its a Woodleigh...The heavy bullets Woodleigh or others in 350 gr. 375, the 450 gr. 40 cal, and the 550 gr. 458, seem to give me a one caliber up in killing powder...That 50 grs. do make a difference and buffalo seem to shake all over at the hit. Imagined or fact, who knows, who cares, I like what I see.

Tested a whole box and the best velocity i got was 2044fps. Lowest i got was 1952. Two thirds of the box were under 2000fps.

That's pretty typical of factory velocity claims on loaded ammunition. I wouldn't worry about it. velocity is often gained to the detriment of penetration.
