myoderru03Help with scope for CZ 550
Does anyone have a rough idea of what the scope mounting distance is on the CZ 550 Safari Magnums?
I am trying to figure out which scope to put on my new .416 Rigby. Among the options I'm considering are the 1.5-6 Nikon Monarch Gold and the 2.5-8 Leupold VX-III, but both have mounting distances of around 5.1" (I think), so they may not work. Does anyone have one of these mounted on a CZ?
Does anyone make good extension rings that go directly into the CZ 550's integral dovetails, or would I have to get some sort of other mount system to be able to use extension rings?

GrumulkinI have a CZ 550 Safari Magnum in 458 Lott. I put a Leupold VX-1 2-7X scope on it with Talley quick detach base/rings that work well. The integral base/rings mount directly on the dovetail in the receiver. There is plenty of eye relief off the bench and off hand. Thus far, after several dozen rounds with this combination, the scope hasn't broken and the Talley mount keeps it firmly in place.

MJinesI have a CZ 550 Safari Magnum in .416 Rigby. I have Talley quick release mounts on it. The scope is a Leupold VX-III 1.5x5x20mm. Setup is damn near perfect in my view. Great combo.
If you do a search on my posts, I posted some pictures awhile back.

myoderru03Grumulkin,
If you don't mind be asking, how much "wiggle" room is there in mounting the 2-7 in the rings, i.e. how much could you move it either forward or back before the rings hit into the bells of the scope?
MJines,
I have the VX-III 1.5-5 on my Ruger RSM .458 Lott. It is a great scope; I just wanted to go to a bit more magnification on the top end for my .416 because I will be using it for elk.

GrumulkinThere is essentially no wiggle room at all; it just fits with no room to spare.

safari_hunterHere's a pic of my 602 with a Leupold 2.5-8. There is no room to move the scope along the rings.

6_5X57I have had a 550 Magnum in a .375. The first scope I installed was a Zeiss Diavari 1.5-6X45 with EAW mounts. Firstly the scope was broken. I changed to a leupold 1.5-5X20 VX III, then the mounts got broken but not the scope. Then I installed a warne mounts and everything worked perfectly till I sold the rifle, but not the scope. The scope is now on a custom M-70 404 J with talley mounts, and have been working wonderfully till now.
Outside end to end of the rings on a 458 Lott using Talley rings is 5.5". A 2.5 Leupold is on but not much wiggle room keeping the front ring away from the lens.
