Idaho Sharpshooterwhat I learned at gunsmith school this week...
1. duct tape is magic.
2. it cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
My friend Jeff took some digital pictures of the stock and is going to post them today. It is U-G-L-Y!!!, but, it will hold together long enough to let me fireform all of my brass! Shot six rounds checking load recoil index at the indoor range in Boise. All with 650gr lead bullets, three with 110gr of H870 (mild) and three with 90gr of H4350. The girls at the indoor range shot a round each of the H870 loads, the short blonde one (5'3" and 115 pounds) said it actually was like a 12 gauge with goose loads...the standard line when you are trying to sucker somebody into shooting a real thumper for the first time. The tall brunette (5'7" and 130)told me it was not as bad as her gunsmith father's 54 caliber muzzleloader...must have been the crescent buttplate on the 54.
Now we can make the extractor cut in the barrel and start on transforming a twenty year seasoned blank from the old family farm into a functional stock. Look for Jeff's pix.
regards,
Rich
