Charles Mc WilliamsReduced loads for the .470 nitro
Hi all im new here and i need help regarding reduced loads for the .470. I have arthritus bad and had my right shoulder operated on recently.I have been getting back into shooting shape with my .300 WBY and have advanced into .375 loads at normal levels, but dont want to jump into the double too quickly.I have a Merkel that still seems a part of me when i pick it up.I have serched but have not found any loads other than posted full power loads, and realy dont want to waste my supply of solids, and nursing a sore shoulder for a week or so. I dont want to get into a squib load situation by guessing, any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Ken Cline400 grain bullets
CCI #200 lg. rifle standard primers
62.0 grains H4198 powder
8 grains of Dacron pillow stuffing over powder. In mine, these shoot to the same POI as regulated loads.
You can use 400 grain 480 Ruger pistol bullets also if you want.

500grains470 NE reduced practice load (and pig/deer/elk load)
500 grain cast lead bullets
45.0 grains XMP5744 powder
F215 primer
NO FILLER
Regulates fine and dandy in 3 different .470 NE doubles.
Essentially no recoil - less than shooting a 44 mag rifle.

ROSCOEUse the XMP5744 load and have fun. If you do not want to shoot the cast bullets then use the same load with the 480 Ruger 400g bullets. This also makes a great hunting load for deer and pigs!
