Bigbore Cartridge Holders
Belt, stock, sling, wrist....?

What works best for you, and what doesn't?

I like a second belt with the cartridges just to the right of (I'm left handed) and under my belt buckle.

I used an Uncle Mike's elastic cartridge belt on my safaris.

Easy on when leaving the truck, easy off when getting back, it is quiet (no squeaking), and inexpensive.

A braod leather belt, WIDER than the cartridge is long. Worn on the hips, not higher. It makes it feel weightless which the nylon / web type Uncle Mikes won't. Trousers without a belt below. Ammo forward. Knife and small camera or whatever you like on the narrow part of the belt at the back.

There's a reason why cops wear thick leather or synthetic and not web belts on their hips with all that heavy gear.

Mike:
You don't answer my emails (nor Scotts) but post here often. Are you on for Australia? Ticket, gun permit, hotel reservation, and VISA in hand? Also, May 12th., a shoot at my place. Meet at Sheep Creek for lunch at noon and shoot afterward. A few are coming up.
Biebs: Knuckle dragger is correct but the problem is with one wrist band I'm a bit off balance.
Cheers all,
Cal
PS. 600 OK--Where can I shoot a hog like this?

It's a bit difficult to make out in the picture, but the left breast pocket of my jacket is open at the top (the flap is for decoration only) and inside it are five elasticised cartridge loops which easily accomodate the cartridges for my .505 SRE rifle. Very accessable under all conditions.
Three in the magazine, one "up the spout", and five in the pocket was all I ever needed.

I used one of these: Bulldog Nylon Ammo Belt

Not as classic as a leather one, but I found it very effective in holding 375 H&H shells and the buckle was very quick and easy to unbuckle when I got in and out of the truck.

And here it is in action. I wear mine running the cartridges to my right (since I shoot right handed). Solids are in the gold colored brass in front, softs further back in the silver colored brass.

I have gone to a canvas and leather belt that I purchased from Cabela's. Used to use a Russell that was set up for big bore but it squeaks when move wrong.

I always use a Murray Buttstock shell carrier, on my doubles. It holds 6 rounds.

I always wear a Murray ammo belt that carries 15 rounds.

I like lots of bullets. Big Grin

Murrays gear is first rate.
