470 Brass

I know there's been some discussion before on NE brass, but I'm looking very hard at buying some of Mast's closeout 470 stuff. I've used Norma on the loads so far, but have only reloaded them once. So how about some opinions on the Norma vs Mast.....and no fighting, guys

Ken ClineI have a conversion Ruger #1 in 470. I first tried MAST brass (ordered it from Midway). The brass would not chamber in my rifle even after resizing. Apparently, the base diameter just ahead of the rim was oversized. I sent all those back and exchanged it for the Norma, and have never had a problem with the Norma brass. Just keep track of your number of loadings per round and see how it holds up.

ROSCOEI have problems with Norma brass in as little as 4 reloads. The case head separates from the case body. The Mast Brass I use is a little thicker and has given me no problems. I have also had good luck with Federal brass.

BFaucettI own a Merkel double in .470 NE. I've never tried the Norma brass. I have only used the Mast (BeLL) brass but I have not done that much loading for the .470 NE. I simply have not fired the rifle that much. From what loading I have done, I have not had a problem with the Mast brass.

AtkinsonI have used both Mast and Norma in my Searcy .470 without any problems..I suggest that if your getting case head seperations that you have an oversize chamber or undersize dies, as your overworking the brass..or you may be loading too hot...

mhoBreaktops (whether doubles, single shots or combinations) are infamous for stretching under pressure. It does not take a lot, and one sign is case head separation.

MZEEBell Brass has been superior to Norma in my 470.
Some of the Norma could only be reloaded 4 or 5 times. I loaded one Bell case 20 times and it still looks good. CHEERS

Lar45I've been useing Bell brass and have loaded it several times, didn't keep track. I got some once fired Federal cases and shot some of them the other day, but only have one loading on them so far.

rcastoI risk case head separation with Norma brass after the third loading. The BELL brass gives me a lot of problems in extracting from my double. And no, I do not load hot.

I was not aware the Federal Brass was made by Norma. If it is then that is the way to go. It is nickel plated and seems much harder. I have never had any problems with any of it. Both of my 470's were Searcy's.
