sodakotaThat looks like a nice rifle. I am curious to how well it shoots and how well the feeding works etc.

I've always liked the look of that action and I like the choice of a peep sight in that caliber. I probably wouldn't wait to increase the overall weight, but I'm internationally known as a wimp. I prefer a less curved pistol grip, but that's my personal taste. If you carry the rifle on your shoulder, holding the rifle by the pistol grip while walking most of the day, you will find that it pulls on the edge of the hand quite a bit and becomes uncomfortable on my wrist. I also like the teflon finish on a real working rifle.

30 Caliber Mag FanThunder Stick-
I like that alot!!!
Of course, I am a self professed Enfield addict.
Who did the metal work? Your post indicates that the maple stock comes from Monte Kennedy.
Very nice, very well done.
Enlighten us with a few more details.

Idaho Sharpshootervery nicely done!! I'm an Enfield addict as well.
Never been a real maple fan (on cartridge rifles, muzzleloaders...now that's a different story"), but that wood is striking and attractive.
You might be happier with another pound.

Great looking rifle! Would appreciate more detail and or pics on how the bolt stop spring was shortened and how it is now supported. Also a close up of the safety. Looks like you had it trimmed down a little.
Thanks, Hart

Hog KillerI agree with Rich. Go ahead and add a pound or pound and a half. It will be much more pleasent to shoot with full house loads. One fast, easy, and reversable way to add weight, is to put one of Uncle Mike's elastic buttstock ammo carriers on your rilfe. Nine rounds of Lott ammo will weigh about 18oz. Add a leather sling and you should be close to 10 lbs.

ps: here is my Lott (Rem. 30S)

gumboot458Pretty rifle.......I would shoot it some and with a 458 Win equivalent load before adding to the net weight .....I think it is 458Win , who says , Recoil is momentary but gravity is forever..... Myself I would have left the ears on but yours is a beautiful and well setup looking rifle .. ..Congradulations...
.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Paul H8 1/2 pounds

My first 458 lott was built on an enfield, 9#'s even with the ported barrel, it got your attention with full patch 500 gr loads

My current lott tips the scales at 10#'s, and even though it is unported, it is manageable with full patch.
The straightened bolt handle should keep your knuckles from getting rapped, but I'd strongly suggest adding 1# before shooting full patch loads.

tin canis the original safety usable with the cock on opening?
I see a safety somewhat similar to the original '17 safety on the (very handsome) rifle.
good looking bolt handle, also.
thanks.

Alberta CanuckDo you know when Monte made the stock? While he was still in California or after he moved to Lakeside?
If it was the latter, who did the chambering and metal work?
My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

rgg_7Impressive work. Enfield's lend themselves to some very neat customs. Too bad Burgess and Wisner aren't making custom parts for these anymore. Used to be able to by bolt releases, magnum extractors, bottom metal etc.
If anyone has any of these componets that they no longer intent on using, please PM me.
Does the 458 lott use custom bottom metal or is it modified military?
Cheers, Ron
