chuck3753 pos safety on a Rem 700 XCR II
Hi we have a Rem XCR II in 375 Weatherby. It shoots great and has accounted for my brown bear and my youngest son's black bear recently (trip report to follow). It's accurate, light, the only issue is that the new Rem 700 safetys don't lock the bolt like my older BDL did. I know this is a safety feature but it sucks! Can I have an older bolt locking two position safety retrofitted or is there a 3 pos M70 type safety I can have put on. I hear Ed Lapour has a 3 pos safety and have emailed him, but I will try calling him as well.
Thanks!

farbedoPacific Tool and Gauge also offers 3 pos safety shrouds and assemblies.

chuck375Thanks Jeremy, Ed Lapour just got back to me, that's what he uses. I'm going to send our XCR II into him to have it done next week.

buffybrExcuse my ignorance, but what sucks?
I've had Rem 700s since 2000. My first was an ADL in 7mm RM that I replaced with a BDL in 7mm RM and added a BDL in .375 RUM. I've used each of them on one or more hunts in Africa, a Canadian Arctic hunt, and on multiple hunts in Montana.
After I read your original post, I had to try each of my rifles to see what you were talking about.
With the safety on, the triggers on each of my Rem 700s are locked, but the bolts will open.
With the safety on, both the triggers and the bolts on my Weatherby Vanguard and both of my Mark X mausers are locked.
When I unload any of these rifles, I unload them by releasing the floor plates. I have done this for over 40 years.
The only thing that I can think of that would suck would be if the bolt would somehow be bumped open during a stalk through thick brush.

chuck375That's exactly what happened twice as my son was hiking through unbelievably thick brush over rugged terrain on Capitan Mountain north of Ruidoso NM last week on a bear hunt. Our older BDLs (my 270 was bought in 66) lock the bolt on safe. I like that better.
