Saeed used the 404 case to make the 458 Vincent in long and short version. Check out the Reloading Pages.

Here's Saeed's pic of the 404 parent case, the 458 Vincent Long, and the 458 Vincent Short...

The first published version was the 460 G&A, as I recall, Tom Siatos cration. There is also a 450 G&A on a shortened 404 case.

Then Saeed's ph friend Roy Vincent came out with the 458 Vincent, and Vincent long.

I'm pretty sure the 450 Dakota is based on the 416 Rigby, and as such is very similar to the 450 Rigby, though the Dakota version came out first.

The remington ultramag is a bastardized version of the 404, with a different case head and rim diameter, smaller rim, and bigger base.

I'm sure there are other versions of the necked up 404, probably even some predating the known cats. There is also the unending argument of whether this round affordsa sufficient shoulder for reliable headspacing.

That is debated, for sure. I am not sure there has ever been a documented problem though.

Here's a pic of the 470 Mbogo for comparison....

Similar shoulder, I think, but no problems.

RIP
Ja, good info Paul H. The 450 Dakota is indeed .416 Rigby based, and the rest of the Dakota is .404 Jeffery based, unbastardized as you have perceptively pointed out on the RUM cases.

when was the 450 rigby made?

Rigby came out with the 450 in '95.
I want to add, I don't think Saeed had anything to do with Vicnent's round. Which round in my mind perfectly captures the needs of the .458" bore. I'm an armchair fan of the Mbogo, so you won't hear me praising that case without mentioning it. If you're going .458" I say the 404 or RUM are the way to go. EASY 2450 fps.
