Proper buttstock dimensions
Robgunbuilder, Roger Rothchild, 470Mbogo, etc, I know you guys have BIG rifles and I would appreciate it if you would share the dimensions of your buttstocks @ the recoil pad with me. Height, width, castoff, etc.
Thanks,
Axel

MarrakaiNo doubt the guys will chime in with actual dimensions, but meanwhile, a suggestion:
If you are constructing a modern big-bore bolt-gun from scratch, why not obtain the best sorbothane pad you can get (I like the pommie Absorb-All) and get your stock-maker to fit the stock to the pad. That way you get the maximum possible recoil-absorbtion, together with the original finish on the pad.
I did this myself with a Mauser in .416 Taylor, and it looks very professional!

470 MbogoAxel,
If I`m making a stock for myself I buy the large F990 pad and shape the rear of the stock to it. There is a definite difference when shooting Canuck`s 470 with the standard Ruger stock and shooting mine with the full size pad.
Take care,
Dave
Thanks for the information gentlemen. Come on the rest of you, please help me out here.
Axel
Axel,
Are you finally making those dangerous game rifles you said you would?
Beginning to Karl. Trying to get some foundational information first.

<t_bob38>Why do you want the dimensions of someone else's stock? If you are going to be doing the shooting, you might want a stock that fits you, not Roger or Robgun.
t_bob38, I am interested in hearing from the big bore shooters because these guys know what the recoil pad width height dimensions should be. I am not referring to the length of pull or cast off, just the physical dimensions of the very butt of the stock. I know Mr. Rothchild has an original A Square Hannibal and they are reputed to have a very LARGE butt sectional area.
