cooterWhitworth Express 375 H&H
While out looking "stuff" at the local store, I noticed they had a used Whitworth Express rifle in 37 H&H in the racks. Looking it over, it is a beautiful gun- very dark stock with cheekpiece, three leaf (100,200,300 yd) rear island sight, brownish red recoil pad. The gun is in very good shape, somewhere around 95% in my judgement. A bit out of my price range though, at $699 (and a bit more gun than I need for the local yotes and whitetails).
If anyone is interested, they can call 218-233-2751. This number is for the Scheels store in Moorhead MN, ask for the gun dept.

AtkinsonThats a good buy..They usually bring about $800 to $1000 today and seem to be going up in value..They are excellent guns, opened up in the front std. Mauser MK 10, and thats a supposedly taboo, but I have never heard of one giving any trouble and they had excellent barrels and all of them I have seen shot very well out of the box....

OldsargeGood move on that, Rusty, and thanx for grabbing it before I could spend my hard-grubbed safari money on it, instead.

You have no idea how hard it was not to snatch up the phone and credit card as soon as Cooter put that notice up. Phew! Safe for the moment! On the other hand, it this happens again, I may not be able to show so much restraint so I am depending on the rest of this forum to help keep me out of trouble. Buy dem Whitworths afore Ah kin, willyez?
Thanx,
Sarge,
You are better man than I Gunga Din. Yep, I lasted a day and a half! The price was right!
Wait til you see what Ray's going to have to pay to get it from me! LOL!

Rusty, I'm pleased with my Whitworth, tho it's needed a little more tuning up than I expected. I replaced the magazine spring with a brownel's which has helped with occasional jams I had with round 1 & 3 tipping down, thus jamming on the feed ramp. I also got a 375 length follower, but found it was a little too wide. Jim Wisner suggested milling it down by ,01. I'll need to see if I can prevail on Jeffe and his heavy machinery to whittle it down a bit. It's shooting 260 accubonds great over 70 gr of RL. A month from today, hopefully I'll be shooting a gemsbok or kudu with it. Bob

Not any more!
Hey Rusty, I had to slam both hands in the gun vault door, so I couldn't dig out my credit card! I already have two Whitworth African express rifles chambered for 375 H&H, and I don't need another one, but though about rebarreling to 400H&H. Glad you got it, you won't be unhappy with it. I have never shot one that didn't take care of business!
Bring it next time we go hog hunting!

I'll really make you feel bad, as I have two of them, bought the last .375 Whitworth from a friend who is a gun dealer. I had told him a couple of years earlier if he got a used .375 to let me know, so one day he brought it in to work, it was his personal one and said he'd take $375 for it so I filled out a check fast. This was one of those extremely rare good deals.
Bobc,
Hope you have a great trip.
Mac,
Yeah I figured you'd want it. I just got it to loan to 400 Nitro Express for his hunt next year.
I'll post pictures when it arrives. That might be week after next. Thursday and Friday I'm surprising the wife with a trip to Santa Fe for our 36th Wedding anniversary.

Would you by any chance be hunting with Vaughan Fulton? He's headquarted up in that area. I'll be hunting with him next May.
No, we'll be with Helmke Von Bach, who is booked by Mims Reed of Dallas. I think Vaughn hunts north of where we'll be. Bob
