Ruger No. 1 in big-bore: Not a good stock design?

I've been reading both here and on other forums about the poor stock design of the No. 1 on hard-kicking rifles. Is there anything to this, or does it vary from person to person?

Stock design is alright, but the factory recoil pad is terrible.

I think it is a fine simple stock design...I believe Brownell designed it..and he was a pretty handy whittler...

Recoil is primarily due to the fact the gun is just too light for the big bore calibers...

I have a ruger #1 in 375H&H (I know its not a hard kicker)and find it a lot more confortable to shoot than my 1895 in 450, a hell of a lot better!
