crowrifleNeed help!
I have a Ruger #1 in 45/70 that I am trying to ready for this year’s hunting season using Barnes 300 'X' bullets and IMR4198. This combo usually gives pretty good accuracy and the recoil is minimal. But the last couple of times at the range I was all over the target. Yesterday I notice that the scope is actually slipping in the rings from the recoil. It had moved over an 1/8 th of an inch - you could see where the paint/finish on the scope was marred. I want to discontinue using the Ruger mounts and rings that came with the rifle and re-mount the scope using another manufacturer's mounts and rings - preferably ones that have socket head screws. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

<Don Martin29>Get some Scotch Double Stick tape and put it on inside of the rings both top and bottom. I suppose you could clean the oil off of the scope and rings first. This will hold the scope in my rifles including the .375's.
I hope the inaccuracy is not the bullets. I have got some OK groups with a slipping scope.

GeorgeSBurris and Leupold both make replacement rings for the Rugers.
I'd go for the Burris Signature rings, as the synthetic inserts will hold your scope tightly without marring the finish.
