9.3x64 loads
What velosity should I be getting out of the 9.3x64,I had this rifle made for my wife.It is a mauser 98 with a laminated boyd's stock and a 22" stainless barrel.I'm using imr4064 and imr4320,I've also tried 4350,but the best it will do is the 286 nosler @2475-2540fps and the 270 speer@2650fps.Has anyone used rl15 in this cartridge? Also any load advise with the 300gr swift.

RobgunbuilderI tried 63 grs of Rl-15 and the 250 gr Nosler. It hits 2720 fps with no pressure signs. 65 grs was absolute max and it hit 2910. Thats 340 WBy territory! Mine has very little freebore, so I had to back down. Accuracy was 1 hole at 100 yrds.-Rob

AtkinsonI found that IMR-4320, IMR-4895, and H414 to be excellent powders...I also found that standard Fed.210 primers were better than 215 Magnum primers....26" Lothar Walther barrel.
79-H414 250 BX 210 FED 2830 FPS
65-4895 320 Woodleigh 210 Fed 2494 FPS
77.7-WW760 250 BX 210 Fed 2755 FPS
67-4320 300 Swift FED 210 2560 FPS
75-IMR4350 286 Nosler FEd 210 2650 FPS
68-4320 Nos. Bal. tip Fed 210 2790 Most Acc.
that should be enough to get you on the right track..I have tons of loads but these seem to be the best...IMR-4320 seems to be the most accurate powder in my gun and also gets the velocity I'm looking for, but IMR 4895 was right in there.
RL-15 did OK, but invaribly was out performed by the above powders, which was a disapointment to me as I have a lot of RL-15 powder...

<Cobalt>Ray,
I loaded up some with 70gr of 4350 and that load was slightly compressed-like right up to the bottom of the neck. Do you use a drop tube for the 75gr load to keep it from overflowing the case? Cobalt

AtkinsonCobalt,
My reloading shows a note that states, 75 is all my case would hold, and that book max is 76 grs...
In some cases I will drop two charges into the case by dividing by 2 to get the full charge. In this case it would have been two charges of 37.5 and a tap or two between charges for 75 grs. I would normally make a note of this, however...
I can only assume my case held 75 grs. to the top and I tapped it a bit and put a bullet in it...

AtkinsonSafariSch,
Handloader Magazine #147 shows 77 grs of IMR-4350 with a 286 gr. RN bullet as max..This 75 gr. load did not show a lot of pressure in my rifle. I show 75 as a full case in my reloading notes. no signs of pressure and fair accuracy at 2631 FPS with a std. primer....
I have loads for RL-15:
250 BX 68 grs. (70 max.) RL-15 2799FPS
270 Speer 68 " 2890 (max)
Bottom line: IMR-4320, H414 and H4895 are the powders of choice for the 9.3x64 IMO....I also note that this case is demanding of std. primers and that mag. primers really effect pressures dramatically....

AtkinsonCorrection: to the above post...
75 grs 4350 shows exceptional accuracy at 1/2" for 5 shots...mild pressure.
Sorry I was reading the next line down in my reloading book
