I just purchased a CZ 550 American Safari Magnum with express sights. It came with a tool that I can't figure out completely.

One end is obviously the screwdriver to loosen the set screw on the sights, but it also has a keyhole opening in it. Is it just a hole or do you use the tool for something else besides a screwdriver?

Actually, I did try to find it in the manual, but must have missed it. Thanks for the info.

It is a .375 H&H magnum. Just shot it for the first time today. Really like it.

Congratulations on the purchase of a fine rifle. I have three as of last weekend, when a 375 finally joined my 416 Rigby and 505 Gibbs on the rack.

Thanks - my wife bought it for me as a 50th birthday present.

People told me how terrible the recoil was going to be, but I didn't think it was bad at all.

Congrats CVC! I own one in .375 H&H also, albeit with the "hogsback" stock. I don't find the felt recoil bad at all, even off the bench. CZs tend to be good shooting rifles out of the box. I now just need to "blood" it on an elk or bison .

Did you put a scope on yours? If scope, what scope did you mount?

What ammo are you going to use for elk?

I put a Leupold VXII (2-7) on mine (lots of eye relief), based upon a friend's recommendations. I used the Warne QD mounts. However, I'll most likely put a VXIII on it in the near future.

I shot my American 375H&H for the first time today, and it was like a kitten compared to my buddies 300 WinMag.

My experience is the same. The 300 win mag hurts when I shoot it, but the 375 wasn't that much worse than my 30.06.

I have a Leupold VariXIII 1.5-5x20 in medium Warne QD rings. I've been pleased with my handload consisting of 300gr Hornady RN Interlocks, Winchester brass, Federal 215s, and Win 760 powder. I've loaded some 300gr Nosler Partitions but I haven't benched that load yet. If the Noslers shoot anywhere near as good as the Hornadys,that would be my choice for elk/bison.

I was thinking of trying the Hornady 300 grain spire points.

I use RL-15 in my 375 H&H Mag. and shoot Hornady 300 gr. BTSP and FMJ RN bullets. I get about 1.5 in 3 shot groups with the BTSPs at 100 yards and 1 inch groups with the FMJs.

I've got an older CZ in 375 H&H which cracked the stock just before the tang. Does anyone make replacement stocks other than the pricy McMillan?

I have had my .375 H&H for about 9 months now and have fired about 300 rounds thru it in the last 3-4 months,. Bought mine with one of the wood laminate stock options and so far seems to be a pretty good rifle. I'll admit the recoil has taken a bit to get used to, but when shooting off tripod sticks its not to bad. Mounted a bushnell 4200 Elite scope on mine, 2-6 x power.

I have come up with 2 different loads, or should I say 2 different powders for basically the same load. So far the 300 gr Nosler partions pushed by 74 grains of WW 760 are grouping pretty good, on a good range day under 1' @ 100 yds from the bench (ouch that recoil hurts the worst then). Also use either Federal or Winchester brass and the Win Large Rifle Mag primer.

This will be my load for Africa next year in my quest for leopard ( yeah I know that 300 gr bullet is a little heavy for the cat, but I only want to take one load and want the heavier bullet for the PG animals on my list), eland, waterbuck, sable, maybe giraffee and various smaller critters which I'll use my 30-06 with 180 gr Nosler partions for.

Ive also found the .375 is pretty easy to reload, the brass is not as hard to work while doing the various reloading steps.

this all more of a description of what i have/am doing with my rifle as opposed to answering the question that started this thread.

I finally found rings for my CZ .375 H&H so I mounted a Bushnell 3200 2x7x33 on it. I've been shooting it with just the express sights off sticks and found it to be a satisfactory 50-yard or closer gun.

Up until a few ago I was going to get the CZ in .505 Gibbs but I read on this forum about the possible feeding problems of the gun/cartridge combo that I decided to hold off until it's corrected by CZ. Besides, the one I was going to buy got sold before I could get to it. All the elitist "I don't think you can handle the recoil" remarks should not dissuade one from getting the rifle he wants.

If I do get the .505 I probably will just use the express sights and not scope it.

I just shoot my CZ 505 Gibbs and disregard the malarkey about monstrous recoil. I am in Nampa, Idaho, and you are welcome to PM me and set a date to shoot any of my CZ's. 9,3x62, 375, 416 Rigby, or the brutal 505 Gibbs. Time it in 4-6 weeks, and you might be able to shoot the 550 Gibbs Magnum and the 577BME (belted magnum express)based on the 505 with a belt swaged on it. %77NE 3" ballistics.

I don't have a chronograph, but according to my Hornady manual, I should be around 2500 fps give or take. Take that with a grain of salt because I don't have empirical proof (chrono readings). It's a near max load. As normal, start lower and work up carefully.

Thanks for info. I'm getting a chrony soon, so once I reload a few 375s, I'll let you know how it clocks out of my CZ.
