I'm thinking back to several of the things I wanted to shoot through my previous one, but didn't get to try. One thing I figured would be a ~300 gr cast 45 pistol bullet ~.451" dia, paper patched up to .458". Wondering if anyone has tried that combo, and what the results were? Extrapolating my cast loads in my 350 Rigby, I figure ~15 grs of Unique should be good for ~1400 fps.

BrentYour barrel's twist rate is way fast for a short pistol bullet. You might just shoot cast lead - grease grooved or paper patched. Paul Matthews shot a lot of paper patched lead in a .458 Win mag Ruger #1. See his book "The Paper Jacket" if you want to know more about it
