HunterJimRe: .416 Sighting Problem
John,
You can make your elevation change with either the rear sight or the front sight: rear sight goes up to move the bullet strike up, the front sight goes down to move the bullet strike up.
I think I have a peep sight that is intended for the Talley base, at least the guy I got it from said it was. It comes with a grip cap compartment too.

WillBuy a lower front sight! If you ever want to use the open sights, get the NECG ones. "Masterpiece" rear sight and the "Universal" front sight (the lowest one that Brownells sells is the only one that worked for me).

30ott6I recently purchased a custom 416 Remington. It came with Talley scope ring bases and open sights. Here's the problem: Before I mount my scope, I wanted to get the rifle sighted in using the open sights. The rear sight sits low and is just visible over the scope bases. With the rear sight as high as it will go, the rifle hits a 25 yard target 11.5 inches low! This is not good!!
I thought about buying a ghost ring that mounted on the Talley base and eliminating the use of the original rear sight but can't find a ghost ring that will fit the Talley base. Next, would be to replace the current rear sight with a higher or taller rear sight but it would have to be almost a half inch higher. A lower front sight might also help but I am afraid I won't be able to see it over the scope bases. Shimming the rear sight is out of the question as their is to much shimming required.
Can anyone think of anything else to try?
Thanks- JOHN

GeorgeSJohn,
Talley makes a peep sight that attaches to their bases, and Jim Brockman offers a nifty pop-up peep installed on a Talley base.

John RicksBrockman Pop Up Peep built in a Talley Rear Base. The peep slides down when the scope is installed. Caution on scope selection, with many variables the power adjust ring will interfere with the peep sight in the down position.

NECG Masterpiece front ramp with red fiber optic bead and window hood. The bead is easily interchanged in the field with other type beads, or with a bead of different height for adjusting the impact point. Look at the NECG web site for more info.
I will post a photo of the Talley Back Up peep sight later, have to find the diskette.
