Brad aka Pill ShooterRuger Safari Magnum in 404 Jeffery
Does anyone know if Ruger ever actually built one? I know they listed one in their catalog way back when I'm just wondering if they ever prototyped one at the factory or was it just wishful thinking. I currently own the only RSM in 500 Jeffery (of course a conversion thanks to Jim Dubell). Just looking for more information.
Thanks Brad

fredj338I understand they made a few. Shame they didn't actually follow through, nice rifles.

eurocentricI never saw one, I did find two Ruger single shots and both had trouble with regular factory ammo, I believe thats the reason they were pulled: bad dimensions. anyways, nice collector items.

fourboreI was involved in this conversation in a prior thread. Maybe there is some way to search for it. Good luck on that. I too remember the 404J listing and never saw a gun. I forget now, was it the RSM or M77? A bolt for sure, was made.
The credible story told here was Ruger had a problem with the CIP spec. Or lack of CIP spec, or the change of the CIP back to the original dimensions. That is all settled now, but Ruger got burned and probably will never go down that road again. They seem to be on a different path with Bill's passing, in with the new (416Ruger) and out with the old.
Eurocentric, what would it take to fix a chamber? Reamer, or set it back first and then ream? Maybe Ruger would do that work, if there was a safety concern.

GarByAccording to Ruger via a phone call from your's truly about 2 years or so ago, they never made one that left the factory for sale. They may have made a couple for "trials"...but never sent one to a dealer.
