Does Pac-Nor have the .458 shoulder 400 Whelen reamer?

When I was building mine a couple years ago I checked with Pac Nor first because I've had excellent barrels from them. Right now I can't remember if they didn't have the right twist or groove diameter, chamber reamer or what it was but they were unable to fulfill my needs. So I went with Shilen barrel and borrowed Michael Petrov's reamer and had Kevin Weaver (Weaver Rifles.com) do the project.
You could clear it up faster than my defective memory though if you email or call them. They are usually very responsive and easy to talk to = nice folks.

PacNor does list a .411 barrel and a 400 Whelen reamer. A quick email to them should get you the reamer drawing or the dimensions. They are real good to do business with and in my experience quick to answer emails. They did two barrels for me recently and I am well pleased with both.

My 400 Whelen is on a Shilen barrel and a Petrov reamer. Michael recommended Shilen to me when I built mine. I have not been disappointed.

Looking ahead, what is the final consensus concerning the correct ch4d reloading dies set for the 400 Whelen Petrov?

I've got my rifle shipped off being "upgraded" to this version of the cartridge.

It should be their 400 Whe product ID number. That's what I ordered for mine.

The potential problem with the PacNor barrel is it has a 1 in 16" twist.


Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

That was the reason I didn't go with Pac Nor, I just couldn't remember it at the time of posting.
Sorry about my bad memory...
I have several other Pac Nor barrels and they are fantastic, I will continue to buy from them.

I like the PacNor barrel on my 9.3×64 B. If I was going to build a 416 then they would b on my short list. I wish Lothar Walther made a stainless barrel in 404land 411 groove dimensions. But if they make a 410-411 barrel I can't find any sign of it. Everyone seems very happy with their Shilen barrels so that's prolly the best to go with.

FWIW, the CH4D dies I bought in February marked .400Whelen G&H leave the shoulder .458" after full length resizing.

I spoke with Dave of CH4D before buying the G&H set, wondering about a "JGS" version and he basically said most SAAMI tolerance specs are wider than the difference between the G&H at .456" nominal and the JGS at .458" nominal. Short story long, he had the G&H on the shelf and six month's lead for the JGS so I got the G&H and they work perfectly with a rifle cut with 4D Reamers' JGS Petrov chamber.

Douglas makes a .410 barrel and I use them 100 to one above Shilen. And also above the others.

I've not long built a 400 Whelen with a Pac-Nor barrel, no problems at all stabilising a 400 grain Woodleigh.
Best powder has been RL 15, chronographed the 400 Woodleigh at 2185 fps with it.
Easily 3 shots around .780" or so.
