Big Wonderful Wyoming400 Whelen chamber at Pacnor
Is this the right 1930's chamber with the .458 shoulder? Or should I steer clear?

SnellstromPac Nor wasn't making the right barrel when I was looking before my 400 Whelen build. I looked on their site recently and nothing had changed.......

SnellstromShilen has been the barrel of choice lately for the 400 Whelen nuts I mean aficianados. I got my 400 barrel from Shilen as well.

BryndonI have a reamer and gages I will loan out in the same manner Petrov did: Borrower pays shipping both ways and if you break it you buy me a new one.
Mine is JGS that was made from Michael's PTG dimensions.

martI went with the Shilen on mine. That's the way I'd go again and that's a generous offer by Bryndon. Mine is done with a copy of Michael's reamer. He offered me his but it was loaned out at the time when my barrel blank arrived. A gunsmith friend had a copy of Michael's reamer and did the work for me. I sure miss Michael. I really enjoyed visiting with him.
PacNor makes a great barrel but they offer a .410 or a .412 barrel. The .411 is the correct groove diameter for a 400 Whelen which is what Shilen offers. If I recall correctly PacNor's 400 Whelen reamer is the correct reamer but it's been a long time since I talked to them about it.
