585 NYATI brass has arrived
Well I'm back from Zimbabwe and totally jet lagged. We had a great time nad shot two buff, a major Lion a sable and ELand amongst other things. Despite my fascination with really big bores, the .416 Rigby at 2400 fps is a force to be recconed with! Nothing hit with this round went more than 20 yrds before it died! While I was gone, the brass arrived and looks great! Dieter made some beautiful brass which is properly headstamped as 585 NYATI with a pre-formed shoulder and correctly trimmed. I will send it out to everyone next week as I am out of town till then.-Rob

Rob,

Are you planning on contacting Dieter to see about the possibility of making the 600 brass?

Congrats on a successful hunt!

Congrats on your trip, RGB. Looking forward to a full report with pictures on the Africa forum!!

No word on the 470 Mbogo dies yet, except that DaggaRon has heard that Dave D. at CH4D will be starting them in a couple weeks.

Rob,
Glad you & your son made it back safely! You'll definately have to tell us every (well mabey not every) detail of the trip, but pictures for sure. Take care of what you need to and get some rest. We'll get the brass when it comes. In the meantime, I'll be waiting around the campfire ready to hear some African hunting adventures.

PC,

If that Horneber brass is good hard stuff, a 50/585 would make your ideal "in between" calibre.

I suspect with Bertam brass, a 50/585 might not be much faster than a 500 A2 with necked up 460 brass.

Mike,

Your dead right !!, I was also thinking of a .458/.585. I could drive those surplus rem 405 gr SN's really fast for blow up effect !!! But this might be an overbore. So the .50/.585 would be a better deal I think. It would make a good efficient round I reckon it would only need to be the standard 2.8" length Nyati case and in my eyes would be like a giant .300 wsm. It hopefully would be efficient like that cartridge to.

You could incorperate good features like the 30 degree shoulder etc. Somehow I can feel another 602 action entering my safe for this at some point.

I am thinking of getting Horneber to make me some more cases after Christmas. I would like to get another 100 or 200 cases from him.

Oops! [Embarrassed] I was just showing 470 Mbogo some of the finer points of posting quotes and links, etc, and hit "add reply" instead of "preview post". Some expert, eh???

Mitch/Saeed: Please delete these two posts if you see them. Thanks! [Smile]
