<lb404>450-400, 3"
I am still looking for a Jeffery 450-400, 3" in high grade to buy.I have exhausted all of my considerable recources in the search. I would like to enlist the help of those on the forum that might have knowledge of the where abouts of such a double rifle. Any and all help would be appreciated. Needless to say I am looking for one withe exellent bores, engraving not the hen scratch you often see, and preferrably with a cheekpiece. I would accept another makers gun in similar description but only ENGLISH manufacture. A short length of pull is OK!

ShadowIB404,
Westley-Richards always seems to have 450/400's made my Jeffrey and others.

<Rusty>lb404,
I found a couple at Cape outfitters, but they were very plain. I did find a Rhodda here
Rhodda Double rifle Since most of Jeffrey's actions were built by people like Leonard the trick is to find a Hollis or another double with Leonard's actions.
My Hollis looks just like a Jeffrey of the same era. It is the same barreled action. Key is to look for the 4 digit number on the under rib near the barrel loop. Those are Leonards.
The Westley Richards rifles were also plain.
Pickings are a bit slim now it seems? I know I have mentioned this before, but Searcy will make you a NIB 450/400 3 inch. Price is right, however you do have to wait on it.
Hope you find what you like!

I don't want to turn this into a classified add but if you want to email me or PM me I have two available. One is an Army Navy, completely redone by Westley Richards and the other is a like new, original Jefferys.

Atkinson404,
It is near impossible to find a 404 in the higher grades, it was a hunters caliber and sold mostly to the trade....I suggest a plebium Jefferys and have Jack Belk or someone engrave and rebuild it to YOUR specs..
When I'm through hunting then I will pretty up Sweet Thang with a new stock, engraving and a Doug Turnbull rust blue, Nitre screws, and all the trimmings and even a new Jefferys canvas and leather case with emblem......I will go to son or grandson who shows the most interrest in hunting Africa, in all probablity...
