Hi all, my reamer has finally been shipped after a couple of months wait. Is there an afordable source of 500gn 475 bullets? As long as I have the bullet weight and velocity the same, ie 500 gn 2150fps, should regulation be reletivley the same as a factory load? What about a 500gn cast bullet?

"Affordable" is a problem. Sometimes "in stock" is a problem.

Woodleighs are sometimes available at Midway. Usually in stock at Huntington. Very pretty bullets ... not cheap.

Hawk makes a number of .475 bullets in varying jacket thickness. See:

makes a very nice 540 gr LFN cast projectile. It is a bit long. Might be worth a try in your gun. I believe I remember that Graf and Sons sells a 500 gr cast projectile as well.

Ballisti-Cast makes a very nice LFNGC mold in a variety of weights including the 500.

"Affordable .475 Bullets", that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. I use the 500 gr Barnes XLC's at around $18.00 pr box of 20.

I know that you asked about 500 grain bullets, but have you considered pistol bullets for plinking and practice? A 470 double is on my wish list at present, so this question has crossed my mind as well.

Based on using Hawk .025jkt. 300gr. in a 450/400, and .035jkt. 286gr bullets in a 9.3x74R on deer and pigs I would use the 500gr. 0.35jkt on elk.

I do like cast bullets. I picked up a 400 gn mold to try and 475 is sending me some 500's to try in it. I'd like to be able to shoot lots of cast bullets that will regulate the same for practice and plinking. I think I should regulate the gun with a 500gn@ 2150 jacketed bullet though. Does anyone know if a 500gn cast bullet at the same velocity, 2150, will hit in the same place as a jacketed one? concerning the regulation not group size? It would seem like it would, but I have no actual experience in this.
Maybe I'll check it and post the results.
The reamer showed up in Saturdays mail, I should be ready soon.
