GeorgeInNePaMy Big Bore Project, .600OverKill on a CZ550
My newest project
I got my hands on a CZ550 (action only). My favorite FFL located one, I don't know where, and got it to me for $489.00. My barrel has been sitting in the safe for a while all by itself, now it has a home.
My buddy the gunsmith, is ready to make this a real rifle. We are getting together this week to go over the parts I need to get and order them up. He has donated a stock blank. It's nothing special, but it is straight grained. It will be strong but plain.
I was going to do the "bullet stuck in the bore with calipers measuring" to show the bore, but liked this better.
Left to right:
.416 400gr TBBC, .416Rigby case, .620 900gr Woodleigh, .600 OK case, .600 OverKill dummy round

ScottSGeorge,
Is your smith planning on fabricating a new, wider mag box?
Please keep us informed of the development process on this one.
Scott

GeorgeInNePaI didn't think a new mag box was needed. I understood this would be a 2 round box. BUT, if a new box is needed, well, have tig, will travel.

Mike375George,
If you own some calibres like 338, 375 or 416 then just having that 600 OK in the safe will be enough to make the recoil of the others seem like nothing

GeorgeInNePaMike,
I have a .375 H&H and a .416Rigby. The rifle I am holding in the pic below is my .416.
I had a .338 Win. Want to know why I got rid of it? Too much recoil!

Seriously, it was a Ruger #1 and it was light. Snappy little bastard of a rifle.

GeorgeSGeorge,
If you are going to blood that behemoth on a woodchuck, let me know. I want to be there with video camera recording!

smallfryI would airborn on that! Too bad my 500a-2 is underway.

GeorgeInNePaI was thinking perhaps a doe might have to be the test medium.

Who knows, if I get it done before July, maybe I'll take it to Namibia and shoot a giraffe with it. I hear they're pretty tough.

smallfryGearge you better get on the hump then and get that rifle built. We would all like to see How it does on big game.

GeorgeInNePaSmallfry,
Didn't Rob say in one of his posts about the .600, that someone was hunting buff this year with one? That's what I'd like to see. 900grs at 2200fps(or more) meets buffalo.

RobgunbuilderGeorge- Fantastic. You will have No.4 I can send you the guages this week. E-mail me the address you want them sent to. I'll also send a few of the trial cases. I have some detailed photos for your smith to use also. What kind of muzzel brake are you planning to use? -Rob
09 February 2004, 18:22
GeorgeInNePaRob,
I'm not sure about the brake. I don't intend to try for more than 2150 or 2200. I'm going to shoot it in the white a bit, just to see how much I can take. If it recoil gets too fierce at 600NE levels, we'll move the front sight back and make and install a brake.
That said, it will probably get a brake, I'm a whimp.

You have 2 done, who has #3? Is one going for buff this year, or did I get that wrong?
Any tips and tricks to get the CZ working will help. Thanks.

KarlGeorge,
What is the brass length and loaded length? Looks like about 3 1/4" brass?
How was this made again?
Karl.

Keep the updates coming. After I finish my 470capstick I will be building one of three. 600OK, 550mag or 505 gibbs. Probally will depend on which one I can get some quality brass for first.

That is a big hole. What is the 416 built on?
If you should have any doubts that 600 wouldn't make the cut

I would recommend a Carl Gustav recoiless rifle. Ammo aviable is either armour or cluster
A few close up pictures one the action would be nice, don't be shy

GeorgeInNePaKarl,
When I get home I'll mike the case, I don't remember offhand.
How was what made again? The brass is turned, drawn is on the way.
10 February 2004, 15:08
GeorgeInNePaJohan,
The .416 is a Rigby, factory Ruger RSM. Newer version, thinner barrel.
Close ups of the action won't show anything special(one CZ550 looks like every other), nothing is done yet. I could take a snap of the case in the action, it fills the damn thing right up.

GeorgeInNePaKarl,
Brass length is 3.000". Loaded length is approx 3.620".
