SnowwolfeHein Rifle Owners
I originally ordered a lefty Hein rifle in March 2006 and the rifle was expected to be finished in about 8 months but the latest is to expect another two months from todays date.
I am on the verge of giving a deposit to Hein for building my LH 505 Gibbs but frankly I feel kinda stupid about doing it since I do not have my first one in hand yet.
Have any other forum members ordered rifles from them in the last 18-24 months and actually took delivery of them? How happy were you with the finished rifle? I am interested in hearing feedback from actual happy customers. I would like to keep this topic on track so I am not interested if you seen there work at a gun show, etc. Let's keep the discussion to owners of recently completed rifles.
My wife is probably gonna kill me if I lay out the deposit for the Gibbs as I have one of the group buy Chapuis on order as well.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

SnowwolfeAfter a 124 views and no responses I am wondering if anyone here own's a Hein rifle?

micdisI've seen three board members who received Hein rifles in the last year or so. I know they just recently moved shop locations which may be causing some of the delay.

500grainsRich,
Doesn't Evolution Rifles in Idaho purchase Chapuis barreled actions and then stock them?

SnowwolfeOne last bump. After all the talk about Hein rifles and there quality I thought for sure some of you owned them.

adrookI have a Hein in .450 Dakota. It is beautifully made and very accurate. I have no complaints with it. It is an unbelievably solid feeling rifle that locks up like a bank vault. The fit and finish is perfect. It's the double square bridge action with Talley detachable rings, a very good system for a hard kicker. I think the rifles are well worth what they cost. What else would you like to know?

SnowwolfeHow long did it take you to receive it from the date you ordered it?
Were you happy with it "out of the box"?

adrookI bought it new from a third party who had originally ordered it so I'm not sure how long he waited to take delivery. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another however, wonderful rifle.
I'm sure the steel is forged but Karl or Greg could best answer that question.

hacklebackmorLook on the used market for a Mauser 3000. They are made by Heym and a lot less expensive. Very smooth actions!
08 April 2007, 03:46
SnowwolfeYou find me a Mauser 3000 left handed in 505 Gibbs and I will buy it sight unseen.
Trying to keep the topic to current Hein rifle owners. Thank you

adrookSnowwolfe,
What caliber did you order your rifle in?
Also, IIRC the Mauser 3000s are a push feed action.

BigFiveJackI ordered a Hein and it took about 14 months to get it if I recall.
This is 2 or more years ago. No take down option. I think they would
do well to add that as one of the options for buyers. It is a company
I give excellent, EXCELLENT marks to. The product they provide will
not let you down.

OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

SnowwolfeAdrook,
It is a 375 H&H Leftie. But I am still cautious of ordering the 505 till I at least see the 375.

500grainsAre you looking for a solid hunting rifle or a best quality rifle?
08 April 2007, 06:59
micdisSnowwolfe, Have you asked them to enter you into the order book, without deposit, until your first rifle is finished?
08 April 2007, 13:02
SnowwolfeThats an excellent idea.

DavidCI am suprised you didn't get more replys...
I thought that there were a few more folks on this forum with Hein built N series rifles... .300 mags and the like in Echols synthetic stocks?
Could have sworn that I saw pics of a couple such rifles.

Dave

jorgeI have one on order, a 450 Dakota. It's supposed to be finished by Jan of 08. I did get the opportunity to handle one of their finished products, a 404 Dakota that was on loan to Alaskan Guide Phil Shoemaker (458Win). So did a few of our more learned forumites at Dallas. All had positive comments. It's a very well made rifle and well worth the price. Now all I need is patience. jorge

458WinAfter using the rifle for a season I was impressed enough to actually place an order for one of their actions. I was told that the wait would be appx 14 months - which give me time to decide on and locate a bbl and stock.

SnowwolfeI was told just last week that now the wait is 18-24 months. So in real terms that means 24-36 months.
I know my order for my 375 is already 6 months behind the initial promised date and and 2 weeks ago I was told it would be finished in 2 months. In 6 weeks I should have it but I am doubtful.
But someone from Hein did contact me and told me they would put me in the que now for the Gibbs pending my approval on the 375. I am simply waiting to see the final quote before saying yes.

458WinThe problem Greg and Karl are having is that quality can't be quickly mass produced. If they buy more new machines they have a tremendous outlay of cash , then they will need more help -which creates problems in keeping up their quality.
Do they go the Dakota route ? Or the D'Arcy Echols & David Miller route and keep their quality high and let the market set their price?
I wish them luck as they make a superb product.

SnowwolfeAgreed. But any company should offer a realisitc opinion of delivery times. Heck, I would rather have a company quote me a longer delivery time and deliver soon than expected than the other way around.

458WinSnowwolfe, I also agree with you.
I also wonder if we may have set some sort of long term record for AR respondents for agreeable exchanges without an argument.

jorgeI'm going to give Karl a call on Monday and see if i can get an update. I'm with Phil on this one as well. I'd rather wait a bit rather than have quality suffer. By the way, other renowned gunmakers pretty much have the same delivery timeline. Guess you can't rush artists! jorge

I have had three Randall knives on order for over a year scheduled for delivery in 2010, their wait times are now about 5 years. No one likes to wait but their order book is still filled for the next 5 years. Hein is sort of the same situation.

458WinI would certainly be interested in seeing - or even knowing about - a bolt action "better" than a Hein.

SATTERLEE??
I ordered a Hein last June and at the time Karl anticipated 12-15 months. Sounds like it may be a little bit longer.
