N E 450 No2Shooting Big Bores with 500 grains
On the way back from my Idaho Bear Hunt my brother and i met 500 grains at Aleko,s Store Heritage Arms in Salt Lake City. Aleko is a great guy and I always enjoy stopping by to see him, and his Dad.
There we met 500 grains, had a nice dinner and went to Rock river WY to shoot Prairie dogs.
We took a break to shoot his 470 Capstick bolt and his double 500 Searcy.
First the 470. With full power loads his rifle had very litle recoil. It waqs Very plesant to shoot. It was well balanced.
The recoil of the 500 Searcy, while more than the 470 was not painful at all. Very controlable.
Both rifles were sighted in PERFECTLY and VERY ACCURATE. we had no trouble hitting ANYTHING we shot at out to a little over 100 yards.
ALL shooting was done OFF HAND like MANLY MEN, hunting MANLY GAME

500 grains is a very nice fella and he is an EXCELLENT shot with the big rifles.
He had some light lead bullet loads for his 500 double that shot the the same place as the full power loads.
I will say again both of his rifles were sighted in perfectly and were good to go.
We fired a few rounds from my Freedom Arms 475 Linebaugh. 500 grains and my brother both agreed that the 480 Ruger factory loads [325 grain bullets] were not that bad. The full power 400 grain Hornady 475 loads were another story however. And the Buffalo Bore loads kick even more.
Lets just say they both put the 475 down and said "Lets Shoot the 500 nitro some more".

We had a great shoot and a great Prairie dog hunt.
500 grains was a great host and a class act.
Again, HE Can Shoot.

N E 450 No2Sorry Hog Killer.
While BIG BORES have BIG recoil, just goes to show you if they are put together right the recoil is not painful.

AtkinsonTony,
sorry we missed contact, I was out of town working cattle on a friends ranch when you called..I got in shortly after you called,as I had to put a shoe on my horse, but I didn't have your cell phone number...Guess we'll get together in Dallas...I heard you shot your bear with a bolt gun in 30-06?

N E 450 No2Ray,
Sorry I missed you.
I did not get a bear on this trip. The 475 Linebaugh was my primary bear gun with the 375 Blaser as a back up.

500grainsNE450No.2,
Perhaps you are a bit liberal with the shooting compliments - I saw you hit a prarie dog first shot at 420 yards in 25 m.p.h. wind using only a knapsack for a rest!

Was he shooting his Chapuis? The man can thread a bullet through a door lock with that gun.
