double kremington 798 in 375
Has anyone shot the Remington 798 in 375 H&H? How is it on accuracy and recoil? What are the pro's and con's? Would I be better off going with a CZ? Planning a Buff hunt in the next couple of years and looking to buy a new gun. As I will probably not shoot this gun very much after the buff hunt I don't really want to spend a small fortune.
Thanks,

LabmanUnless you get a geat close out deal on the Remington go with one of the Rugers in 375 or better yet 416 Ruger. A CZ would also be a better choice. The 798's I've seen were on the rough side and the inletting was terrible. Remington seems to have come up with a new and unique concept "free floating actions". By this I mean there are rather large gaps all round the action. Wood to metal fit is really bad. Could be the reason these models have been discontinued by Remington.

I own FIVE 798's and not one is even close to what you've described.
Fit and finish is great quality for a production run rifle.

SliderI will write a short report and costs involved when I get done with mine. The action needs to be smoothed up and the trigger needs to be adjusted and that's it. I sent one gun back to Remington because the barrel was touching the stock on the left hand side. (under warranty)The fit and finish is good. I was amazed how good the trigger was on my 375 after the trigger was adjusted!!!

LabmanThe ones I saw were early models when Remington first started importing them. I worked part time in a guns store (retirement fun job) and everyone in the shop was very disappointed with their quality. Maybe things got better with the later models, but I haven't considered one since. I'll still take a Ruger or a CZ over the Remington 798.

The early ones were crap, for sure.
