I'm in the process of building one on a .458 win mag Mark X. Everything I have researched says that 2400 is well within its capability with a 500 grain bullet. I just had Superior load me some ammo with 550 grain Woodleigh softs and solids. I will chronograph the loads as soon as the rifle is done.......

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Sure it can be done, but at what pressure?
I have not seen anybody reporting 2400 fps with the 450 Ackley and 500 grainers in a 24 inch barrel who could give any pressure data.

What bet? Powder, bullet, brass and primer combo load data?

One way to mitigate any pressure concerns would be to use a CZ with 3.8" box and use the standard .458 Lott throat and seat the bullet out to 3.75" COL instead of 3.6" in a Mark X.

The .458 Lott in a 3.8" box would probably beat the 450 Ackley in a 3.6" box, IF anybody wanted to.

I've been pondering a similar conversion on the same action/caliber. What bottom metal are you using or who is doing the conversion?

The gunsmith is Mike McClellan, who was the head gunsmith for Interarms in Virginia. Don't know yet what bottom metal he will be using yet as I just dropped it off to him. But, if you are interested, I will update you when I have more info.
