<Nik A>Need stock advise
I have a 500 A-Square that has destroyed it's stock. I would appreciate any recommendations.
The rifle is a Weatherby MkV with a McMillan composite stock. It lasted a whopping 120 rounds. Is there anything better?

<Bad Bill>If you bought it from McMillan I would talk to them about what happened...maybe it wasn't bedded properly or maybe they make a better "fill" for the stock. You might try some really hard lamiantes.

RobgunbuilderIf you didn't have a big enough second recoil lug on the barrel, I am actually surprised it lasted that long. I am using a Mcmillan express stock on my 500 A2 and with proper bedding and a large barrel lug it seems to be doing just fine. -rob

<Nik A>I purchased the rifle new and unfired from a gunsmith in the area who had acquired it after the customer skipped out on payment for the conversion. At least that was the explanation I received and it seemed truthful as the rifle was in like new condition.
The stock appeared to be well bedded. There is a recoil lug brazed or soldered to the barrel about 5 inches from the front of the receiver ring. The lug is 1.00" wide by 0.250" thick. Is this second lug adequate?
I was told that the stock was a McMillan Express. Perhaps either I got a bum stock or a was lied to. Is there a way I can tell for sure?
