I won a gun on a raffle, A Browning Bar safari 25-06, but I didn't really want a semi-auto, and I have other guns ranging from 270 Wby mag to 30 Cal, and wanted something bigger, so I talked to the guy that was doing the legal work. at the gun shop, and he agreed to trade for anything of equal or lesser value. I traded for a Remington 700 BDL chambered for 375 Ultra mag. Was wondering what the forum thinks of this caliber? I'm really not a huge Remington fan, but my choices were limited to the equal or lesser thing. Thanks for any input.

A bit over juiced for my taste(H&H) but just ask Saeed what he thinks. He will tell you that Remington stole his wildcat and made a production rifle out of it. He has killed darn near everything that has ever been killed with that gun of his. I guess you could load it down or up depending on the game. Congrats on the new gun. "D"

DaggaRon,,The guy at the shop found me a LSS, but I'm kinda a traditional walnut, blued kinda guy, and asked if he could find one. He found a 2001 model, with engraving on the reciever, so I told him to get it. Is the LSS any better than the blue?

The engraved and blued one with walnut stock sure would be prettier. The LSS would be more weather resistant and a better beater rifle for hard use. Tough choice, your call. I could find a use for either.

I would get one of the $99 dollar Remington aftermarket plastic stocks and use it until I got the laminate or the walnut one bedded properly.
Sometimes just screwing on the synthetic stock works fine. Torquing down on the wood or laminate can compress the areas where pillar bedding should be.

Get the dealer to throw in a Remington synthetic stock too, if the deal can be made.

Charlie, congrats on the gun. The 375 Ultra is a performer.

I think Rem stole Imperial from Canada's design myself. They were making the necked down 404 Jefferey cartridges before Rem came out with them.

I, too, just got a .375 RUM. But I'm having difficulty finding loading data for it. I'm going to work up some loads with Barnes X in 250 and 300 grain bullets and the same for some Swift Aframes in 250 and 300.

Any idea where to look?

I have a 375 RUM I absolulty love it! Mine is on a model 70 winchester,controlled feed. Excellent caliber. I have found that IMR 7828 works with the lighter bullets 260-270 grs,IMR 4350 works good with 300 grainers! Good luck.
