What has been your experience using Woodleigh bonded ("Weldedcore") softs as a first shot on buffalo, then followed by hards. Or, maybe even more bonded softs and even on the 2nd and 3rd shots? Your thoughts? Regards, AIU

only one experience, 400 gr soft in 404J followed by 400 gr solid. They worked fine, the soft blew a nice big hole through the heart and the solid put him down, I suspect I spined him with the solid but am not sure.

Used the softs as the initial shots for my cape buff(s)...

Worked well...

I think Woodleigh softs will be fine as long as you don't push them beyond their recomended impact velocity...

Woodleigh softs are good bullets and hold together very well. Shot an Eland with my 470 and a Woodleigh soft quartering away. Bullet was under the skin in the off shoulder and weighed 492 grains. Original weight was 500 grains. This is the only Woodleigh soft I have recovered from big game. All the others passed through or were not found. I now like brass non con bullets better than soft point because of the damage they do.

I would like to mention that if you chose a Woodleigh soft or any other soft,it is very important what type of solid you use behind that.I shot a box full of 550gr woodleigh RNs yesterday and all grouped well and shot aproximately where my 500gr a-frames,Hornady DGX's,DGS's but just a little lower.After shooting about 10 Woodleigh 550's I shot 3 Barnes banded solids just to see if they shot like all the others.Guess what,the POI was a foot higher! I don't know what caused this-certainley not my rifle or my shooting because I shot the Woodleigh's again right after and they shot as tight and exactly where they hit before.I will try the thing again to see if anything changes but as of this moment I will not use Barnes banded solids after Woodleighs or any softs.

They are fine ......... AT THE RIGHT SPEED.

I was using Woodleigh 350PP in my 375. The PH had me load 2 softs over 2 solids in the mag. Made the buffalo pretty sick.

What happens if you shoot .375 350 PP Woodleigh at 2700 fps at the muzzle and it hits buffalo at 2600 fps?

I use 260gr Nosler Accubonds in my 375 Chatfield-Taylor and have taken both a bison and a water buffalo with them. The bison took three shots and the water buffalo two shots.

I know a buffalo junky who has shot many buffalo and he only uses Woodleigh soft points, no solids.

Many buff hunters use only softs. I use only Swift A Frames....400 gr in the Rigby, 500s in the 450 Dakota,both at a touch over 2400 fps.
Weight retention is 97-99%.

I would in .400cal and above at a MV of no more than 2250fps. Out of this criteria and I move to Swift A Frames or just stick with solids.

The gentlemen I was referring to uses 600gr Woodleigh PP now at between 2300 and 2450 fps depending on which 500 he is shooting. He has used 535 PP & SN and the 570 SN at the same velocity range as the 600 PP. At least that is what he told me when I asked him about it this afternoon. I think I will stick with the Nosler Accubonds and my 375.

You would have to ask someone with a 375RUM. My H&H clocked them at 2400 MV and that worked fine for me.

Mate i have only shot the protected points in my 500 Jeffery and have not even come close to thinking i needed a solid but i guess thats got more to to with the cal.Although i have a 404 Jeffery as well and only used the soft point with the largest critters being a hippo and an Eland and had no problems at all. Don't know if this helps but i guess it will all depend on what cliabre you are useing
