PC,

I sent the money over to RNS becsause it was only about $1500Aus for the barrel, long chambering and dies and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

But my 378s are close to being collected and the way that all worked out I think the 460s coming the same way is my scene.

I did some numbers the other day and it would cost me at least $4000Aus to complete the 550.

$2300Aus for 30/378 Synthetic to get new action. $800Aus for plastic stock. Probably $350Aus to get export licence from USA. Then final chambering and bluing $250Aus. Plus $500Aus for all steel floor plate assembly from Weatherby that needs finishing and bluing.....plus all the fucking about. So what started off as a "let's do that" expands out by quite a bit. The cost of completing the 550 at over $4000Aus is better directed to that Snow Camo DGR Wby in 378 or 460!!

No, I won't bring the barrel etc out to Australia.

PC,

I have checked in Cartridges of the World & max length is 2.86. But they were referrring mainly to RWS cases which are supposed to be shorter.

I mean it is supposed to be 10.75 x 73 after all & that converts to 2.8762 inch. Have a look at this link it shows a Norma case dimensioned. So I would think the Norma cases are OK ex factory.

No I have not let any off yet. Just loaded up 20 rounds to run barrel in. 10 with 77gr & 10 with 80gr of AR2209. Heck that's less powder than my H&H takes in that big case so I think it must be low pressure.

404 Jeffery Case

Heck what is it called anyway " Jeffery" < !--color--> or " Jeffrey" < !--color-->. I've seen both but I think its supposed to be the first; the red < !--color--> one.

Mike,

he has begun more work on it and I got sphincter pucker So ordered 50 cases...a set of dies from Grafs and asked a few questions on the forum, this seems to have alleviated my condition slightly for now

John,

thanks for that link I have saved it. Why AR2209 ?? I thought AR2208 may have been the powder of choice, a tad faster. Your AR2209 loads will be low pressure I bet, I doubt they would knoch the creases out of your cases

Keep me posted on your laod development.

PC,

You are right, with 2209 it will fall out the end of the barrel When I had a 416 Remington I think I used about 80 grains of 2208 with 400 grain Hornadys.

By the way, I am going to sell my 550 barrel and bits and pieces that are in America.

PC,

Better loading density with AR2209 than AR 2208 so why not? Its a bloody big case mate & we are unlikely to fill it.

Yeah so low pressure probably won't even have to resize. Just shoot it over & over. Dream on.
