Could these be attached to a shotgun? In other words, a shotgun can be used as the basis for a DR can't it?

yes. The most common practice I have seen is to cut the original barrels off just in front of the chamber or monoblock, and turn them down to fit. There are others here much better qualified than I to give the details.
