R. G. Howard450/416
I saw a double rifle for sale in what I recall was 450/416. It looked like a Merkel.
Seller said the caliber was supposed to equal a 416 Rigby. I never heard of that caliber but he said he had RCBS dies for it.
Anybody know anything about this caliber?

GeorgeSIt was probably a Krieghoff .500/.416.
Search this forum. 'African Hunting', and 'Double Rifles' for several discussions.

BiebsYes, the 500/416...a necked down 500 NE, meant to recreate the ballistics of the venerable 416 Rigby. Most DR calibers generate velocities of 1,950 to 2,100 FPS, but the 500/416 get it up close to that "magical" mark...a 400gr bullet at 2,400 fps, with lots of bullets to choose from.
