<leojstel>Ruger Mod 94, in 44 mag
I do not know if I am in the right area of this forum. However, I shot, for many yearrs, a Savage Mod. 99, in 308, for hunting deer in Michigan. Due to a bad leg, I always took the scapular bone shot. This caused massive meat loss on the off side. I then tried a Ruger 44 Mag Superblackhawk with hard cast lead bulets. It just bored a hole through the deer and put it down, right where shot. I then heard of the Ruger Mod 94, in 44 mag. I have now used this little big bore carbine for about 4 years. It seems to be a clone of the Savage Mod. 99. I find it light, handy and accuraate. I now wonder if I am the only one using this carbine for this use. I live it the U P of Michigan and seem to be the only person using this carbine. Are there others, as happy as I, out there? Let me know. Leojstel
I would like to say leo that I love the calibre I shoot a marlin 1894p and this little cartridge does pack a punch.
I can't relate to your game you shoot however but I imagine our two rifle would not handle that much differntly only yours is a semi auto is it (deerfield)

<leojstel>PC: I guess I did not relate what the Ruger Mod 94 is. It is a lever action carbine and a close clone to the Sqavage Mod. 99, which is also a lever action rifle. I believe the Savage Mod 99 is the finest lever action ever made. It had an internal magizine that would handle spire point bullets. I tried a Marlin in 44 mag. It had "Microgrovved" rifeling and did not handle lead well at all. The Ruger Mod. 96 has a rotery magizine that holds 4 rounds. The Ruger is much shorter and handier, to me, than a Marilin or Winchester lever action rifle. I do not know where you live and shoot. I wish you well with your Marlin. Leojstel
Most shots I fire would be on my trips to N.S.W this is were a lot of game is in Australia. I like the Ruger .44's I just wish they would make a bigger mag for it.

Heritage ArmsI too want the Ruger carbines avalible with 10 round magazines. I have spoken at length with several aftermarket makers and they seem to be missing the boat. If a 10 round reliable magazine was in production I would have a semi auto and a bolt .44 mag tomorrow.

Richard Waynehy, i bought my .44 ruger deerslayer with sporter stock in 1968 (semi-auto) and think the world of this gun, have shot both deer and moose with this gun. bagged a beautiful 12 point buck last fall at 150 yds., it was like a dream come true. the only problem with the gun is you have to make sure the action and power piston is super clean in wet and freezing weather. I haven't tried out the NEW ruger yet , but im sure it is as good or better than the old one.you would not beleive the amount of hunters up here in ontario , that use them.
