Scope mounts for a cz 550
What are the best mounts for a cz550. I have leupold qd mounts on my 375 h&h and would like something simlar for the cz if they will handle the recoil. I am looking to build a 460 wm or a 500a2 on the cz550 thats why I am talking about recoil problems with scope mounts.
Regards.

Why not just use CZ mounts. I have them on my 416 Rigby CZ550 and they work very well. Othewise I would use Talleys. I have Warne on my 375 602 but they are the older ones and actually tried to shear off the recoil lug on the rear ring. The tab on the ring does not really fit in the recess properly. Maybe the new ones are better. The CZ's fit perfectly as you would expect.

Here are what the Talley quick detachable mounts look like on my CZ:

I use Talley's on my CZ 550 in 458 Lott and am very satisfied with them.

Several friends (more than 4) have had BAD EXPERIENCES using the orginal CZ mounts.

Probably the steel is too soft. Beware of them in heavy recoiling cartridges. IMHO, Go Talley.

Gustavo,
Could it be your friends were using the CZ rimfire rings that have no recoil stop?

The CZ rings designed specifically for the CZ 550 Magnum are stout as any. Ugly and fairly high, yes.

I have had satisfaction with old BRNO ZKK 602 rings on the CZ 550 Magnum, Warne QD, and Talley QD, as well as the proper CZ-made CZ 550 Magnum rings. On the CZ rings I replace the slotted head screws with metric automotive screws with hex heads all around, and carry the metric hex wrench in my pocket. I even make my own QD levers for the CZ rings out of Leupold QRW levers and they work fine. Stout as any.

It would be incredibly stupid of CZ to make faulty mounts for their excellent integral scope bases on their CZ 550 Magnum rifle. It just ain't so.

It may be that they economize by making the rimfire dovetails the same width as the CZ 550 Magnum and Medium dovetails, and you do not want the rimfire rings on a Medium or Magnum centerfire rifle of model 550.

It would be a shame to scope a rifle in those calibers.

Nonetheless, Talley mounts, properly installed, will hold a Leupold 2.5x matte firmly in place. Avoid the teflon finish scopes, like Zeiss and Kahles as they love to slid.

I and most people can shoot a 500A2 more rapidly and accurately at any range with a low power scope, than open sights. It is nice to have both.

The 2.5x Leupold would be my choice, with backup express or peep.

Use CZ, Warne, or Talley rings. I have used them all on a 500A2, as well as a Zeiss integral mount (integral-to-scope). I can recommend all four of those.

Millett CZ rings are trash. Stay away from those for sure. They have crumbly cast metal ring bodies and screws, as well as defective design.
