Andy Z.500/.416 load data
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and I'm looking for some advice on load data for my .500/.416 NE. It's a custom Ruger No. 1 Tropical that started its life as a .416 Remington Magnum. Re-Chambered, safety set to flush, mercury stick and Decelerator pad installed and now it lives on in .500/.416 NE. I've shot reduced and intermediate recoil loads out of it, but I'm looking for some solid data for reloading full strength cartridges. I contacted Barnes Bullets and they recommended starting with 95gr. of H1000 with either their 400 gr. Banded Solid or Triple Shock. What's everyone loading out there? I'm using Jamison Brass with Federal 215 primers. I've got both of the Barnes rounds previously mentioned, as well as .400 gr Nosler Partitions and .410 gr Woodliegh Soft Points. Any advice that you can offer me would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

416TanzanThe load of 95gn H1000 seems far too slow and mild for a Ruger single shot. I do not own doubles, nor a single shot, but the case capacity of what you described needs a serious load. I assume that there are no pressure issues with the design and that it can take loads up to 65k psi? With 350 grain projectiles I would expect it to want 105 gn of R17, or maybe something a little faster.
Check out the 416 Weatherby loads and work up slowly.

Bwana1Nosler now lists the 500/416 in their safari line of ammo.
