So I've never been a fan of the Remington 798.....in fact I usually am a big opponent! But today was my first time seeing the "safari" model. I have to say I was rather impressed. Barrel band, semi decent sights, and the rifle came up to my shoulder and fit me so well. Much better then the CZ550 Safari model (the big boy). IIRC it was around 750$ for the 375 model. The fit and finish left a bit to be desired, but nothing a bit os smoothing out can't fix. Has anyone else seen these yet? They have a lam stock but the outside panels look like walnut....so it looks very nice. I figure even with some smith work this seems like a good way to get into a 375 for a decent price. What say you?

gumboot458... I think they are simular to the Interarms ,Whitworth , and as such they are very good rifles ....I myself would prefer the 375 Ruger , but thats just me ... I do think the Ruger is the tougher rifle and better value ...
.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

MileHighShooterAnd I agree with rathering having the Ruger! Trust me, it went through my mind very quickly pondering if I could have the barrel set back and rechambered lol But then I'd have an extra long box. The only problem with the Ruger is all the ones I have seen around here are over priced, Bass Pro wants like 1099$

MileHighShooterLol its kinda funny that after never being a fan of the H&H and now pondering the classic of all classics, I get 2 guys suggesting the Ruger lmao
I think part of what is driving me towards this rifle, is that unexplainable "feeling" you get when a particular gun calls out to you. You guys have all heard that call...there can be 7 identical rifles on the shelf, but ONE, for whatever reason, is the one you pick up. It was perfect in my arms, almost like the stock was custom fit to me.

vapodogI've seen the Remington Safari grade M-798.....it was a huge improvement over the first M-798s that first hit the market.....I actually liked it.....
As to which I'd rather have.....a .375 H&H or a .375 Ruger.....Personally I'd sacrifice a M-70 in 7mm Rem Mag and turn it into a .375 Ruger.....

MileHighShooterWell if I run across a M70 CRF action for a good price I'd go this way, but thats something I havent seen on the used racks here before

The new Model 70s are supposedly in the pipeline. That should free up the used gun market somewhat, and unless the new guns are crap, it should bring the prices of used guns down.

Dr. DucThe accuracy of the new M 70s doesn't seem to be anything to write home aboout. I've seen some who got 1.5" but most are getting 2.5"+

MileHighShooterI will probably start really hitting the used racks in a few weeks when I get back from hunting and the last season is over. Usually a good surplus of magnums that need new homes!

With the exception of scope mounting system I would rate 798 'Safari' superior to both Ruger Hawkeye and CZ550 Magnum. With it's slight balance forward feeling I like it better then ole' ZCZ 'Whitworth'. Nice looking rifles no doubt about it.
If I didn't already own CZ550 9,3x62 clunker I would surely buy this rifle.
