700 nitro577 nitro vs the 600 nitro
ok heres the question if you had 20000$ and if you had to chose 577 or 600 nitro witch 1 would you pic and why
i am already ordering a 577 nitro but want a second butch searcy to back the 577 up i was trying to deside on either the 577 or 600.

jeffeossothe 577 is the better round, imho.. out penetrates, and you can get back on quicker...
you made a good choice

HenryC470I would not want to be the elephant that was shot with either one, but the 577 has the better reputation, and that adds to the total package for me.
Same thing with ordering a double rifle chambered for a rimmed or rimless cartridge. Maybe I can get 100% reliable extraction with a rimless case, but a little voice in my head will tell me that I am better off with the rim.
That my $0.02. That and $24.98 will about cover your shipping.

700 nitroi dunno thers nothing like sliding a 900grn monlithic solid home with 150grns of imr 4831 and a 215 fed mag primer
and since i will already have a 577 why not eh?
i get a extra say 700+foot pounds depending on velosity/powder.

MACPersonally, I wouldn't go for either one. I'd get a field grade from Searcy in either 470 or 450/400, cancel the order on the 577 and take what is left of the 20K and go on a bongo hunt.
The 577 and 600 were the tools of the professional ivory hunter. Rifles weigh too much to lug around all day. No such thing as gunbearers on any of the safaris I've made. You would be better off with a lighter double. I'd take my 450/400 3 1/4 anywhere and hunt anything. Besides, you will have a PH for backup anytime you go after dangerous game. If you want to take 2 guns, get a good bolt rifle (CZ or Ruger) in 416 Rigby and call it a done deal.

700 nitromac as much as i like buffalo i would take elephant any day of the week.
i have the skill and shooting abilty to use these guns with skill so why not.and the physical streagth
the 577 is the king of elephant guns and no 1 and i mean no one can say it isnt because it has been there done that and still is doing that.
i have talked to many ph's and butch searcy him self
in 20+ years of gun making the only rifle he ever made for him self is the 577 nitro express
the 577 can penetrate to the brain of a elephant from extream angles
ross seyfried once said i get almost carless with the big 577 because it just floors anything it comes incontact will infact i tend to get carless because i know the 577 will always win the day.

700 nitrooh and by the way i dont like bolt actions
09 December 2002, 12:36
MacD37I wouldn't buy either one of them!

But if I had to choose between the two you list, I wouldn't have to even think about it, it would be the 577NE every time!
I had a 577NE 3" double rifle for years, and never took it to Africa, simply because it was too damn heavy to carry all day in Africa's heat, and the recoil, and weight negated recovering and getting back on target for the second shot, at anything like QUICK! It was simply not pleasent to shoot, or carry. Too me, that is the whole idea of haveing a double in the first place, a quick, reliable second shot, in a tight place! Like MAC, I'd much rather have a good 450/400NE 3" double rifle weighing 9.5, to 10 lbs.
It is my opinion, the 600NE, 700NE, and now the 800NE are simply "LOOK AT ME", Rich man's toys, nothing more, and are useless for hunting. Plus, I don't think a 577NE will do anything better than a 470NE, or 500NE which are both far more usable.
I really hope you don't take this as any kind of criticism of you,it is simply my opinion, and not binding on anyone! The one very good choice you made, IMO, is going with Butch Searcy, for what ever you decide to buy!

PCBlack powder,
since you will already have the .577 I reckon you would be mad to get another !!, I would go for the .600 Nitro. Like you said "why not" if you have the cash to burn mate more power to you !!
It would be more fun to have two different toy's than two of the same !!
I would get a searcy double to if I had the cash, but I have got Sefrieds "poor mans .577" instead.
Just make sure we get plent of high res pictures when they arrive !!
Have you ordered any of woodleigh's Black powder express .577 bullets ??
09 December 2002, 13:04
700 nitropc i have 100 750grn woodleigh solids and 50 softs
of the same weight
since i will already have a 577 nitro i will probably buy the 600
im pretty shure a 900 solid at 1950 will do the trick.
the 577 bp bullets are to soft for the nitro express and are designed for black powder velositys and presures

T.CarrB-P-B-B.
You say you have "the skill and shooting ability to use these guns". Out of curiosity, how many animals have you taken with your .577?
I hunted with a PH who had a new (to him) .577 NE and I will tell you from experience, if you can't hit the "mark" it doesn't matter what you are shooting. It's better to hit him in the right place with a .416, than miss the "mark" with a .577 NE.
Email pictures of your .577, I will be glad to post them for you.
Regards,
Terry

NitromanBlack Powder,
Get that .600!! Then use that and your .577 for hog hunting. I hear tell them wild hogs is BIG critters...real nasty too...takes Big Gun to bring'em down.
For your 2-bore you could cast up a cylindrical slug; once poured let it set a few seconds 'till the lead solidifies then immediately pour in the remainder. Depending if you have a nose-pour or base-pour make it soft lead next to the powder and hard lead up front. Boy wouldn't that make a distinctive sound when it hit something? Yikes!

700 nitrook you got me il put it this way i dont mind bolt actions but i prefer double guns or single shots or ruger type design
i should not have but it like that sorry
i had a old 577 nitro rigby rifle but sold it since the rifle did not fit me very well i bought it off a tall man and the stock was far to larg to fit me comforably
i still how ever managed some excellent groups
i also had a 577 nitro from ssk industries witch i also sold to the same gentleman he is far taller than i am by at least 6" i am 5 foot 10
as far as animals taken with my 577 guns i shot about 15 hog with the double but on most hunts the 577 ruger 1 came with me because the stock fitted me far better.
i have taken 3 moose and a few deer with the 577 with solids and cast lead bullets
as far as pics go i will try and find some close ups as i should have a few
the butch searcy wont be hear for at least 12 months i can wait at least i will have a proper fitting gun
hey roth unfortunatly i have sold my 2 bore and the new owener will have to try that little trick out.
09 December 2002, 16:04
700 nitrot carr i will be email the pics to you tomorro
i will go down stairs and see if i can find them in my filing cabinet
09 December 2002, 16:10
<Rusty>I sure the heck would not be sliding any "Monolithic Solids" into the chambers of ANY double rifle! You need a lot more money than sense to do that! Just my opine.

T.CarrB-P-B-B,
Thanks, I will look forward to seeing the pictures.
Have you had a chance to hunt Africa yet, or will your elephant hunt with Johan Calitz in Botswana be your first safari?

Terry

MingbogoI would go with the 600 Nitro as it's brass got a thicker rim and it looks more impressive. Good luck.

RIPbpbb,
A couple of days ago on the Botswana thread, you said you had been to Africa once before, so the Calitz elephant would be your second safari. Now it will be your third. Now you got me confused.

10 December 2002, 05:01
T.CarrBPBB,
Are you saying that the picture you posted and the picture of the Heym on GunsAmerica are two different pictures? That you two just happened to use a similar green background?
I don't believe that anymore than your half-price elephant safari story.
Regards,
Terry
P.S.
Here is the Heym from GunsAmerica
Here is BPBB's picture

<Rusty>Well, well! Now it seems the "Golf Green" looks like a faux "Astro Turf" indoor/outdoor carpet.
I wish we'd post the IP addresses of these BS Clowns. This guy got more crap than a Christmas Goose!
One safari, two safaris, going on his third? Oh please, probably doesn't own a passport, much less a Nitro Express double rifle.
Just another I've done it all troll ! Got his scanner working! LOL! What a great laugh!
I wonder if the guy selling the rifle knows this clown is using his picture without permission?
I got a great idea, just don't answer any more of this clowns posts. He'll just wonder off into the AR bush and die! Just worthless megalomaniac.

700 nitrohey rust why dont you call me and talk to me unperson then maybe youll be a little less in clined to put childish posts on here
10 December 2002, 07:32
MikelravyFrom what I have read the 577 was poorly received back in the day when people conceivably had a use for such a thing. I don't care what people spend their money on, but there are numerous more practical calibers than either of these.
10 December 2002, 07:47
700 nitromike what caliber do you prefer?
10 December 2002, 09:02
<Carlos>Interestingly enough, the patterns of the walnut stocks appear identical in the Hemy picture and bpbb's.

REMARKS ..............
#1 The rifle you posted a picture of is no RIGBY, and it is exactly the same picture as the one posted on the Heym site! The grain pattern in the wood is identical, as are the shadows on the green carpet! All the protesting, by you, will not change that fact!
#2 I did not post a snide remark! I stood right up,and said it outloud, like a full grown man! I said it In public, the same way you have spread your BS! I'll retain your Phone number,(1-905-295-4868), however, and ask Johan about your Elephant hunt, at the Dallas Safari Show, and Butch Searcy will be there as well, and maybe they both can shed some light on your claims.
Now folks I appologise to the rank and file here fore my stateing my opinion of Black-Powder-Big-Bore and wasteing band width that could be put to better use! ![[Frown]](images/icons/frown.gif)

700 nitrowell mac why dont we clear it up right now instead of waiting for the dallas show
call ron up in two-3 days by that time he will have my 10,000 dollor check and in about 3-4 days butch will have my check for the box lock under lever 577
and every 1 is entitled to there opinion if you think im a liar good for you mate its a free country but its sad to see a grown adult waste his time making rude comments over the internet instead of face to face with the person he is making them to
