eurocentricCZ Rifles for 2009.
Met a CZ salesman friday afternoon, he gave me a long rundown of the new goodies from CZ for 2009. some of the goodies are: 416 Taylor, regular stock or the customized build 9around $1300) this is similar to the 375 H&H offering.
416 AND 375 Ruger Rifles. 416 Taylor, 416 Rem, 416 Rigby and 9.3x64, among others. All calibers will be customizable. I'll be receiving an advance copy of their 2009 catalog in a week or 2.
They use A-Square for some of the specs. Good stuff.
Cheers.

Eurocentric a question, do you know if prices will continue to be so affordable?, I say this because I'm interested in a rifle of that mark in 458 Lott, but I had to save little by little and then I would not want to meet with the unpleasant surprise that rise suddenly for example 200 euros ($ 267,778). At present the rifle is that I have commented to 1015 euros (1359.24 $) thousand thanks.
A greeting,
Oscar.

eurocentricHe said the prices for 2009 were intially specced out back in June 2008, when the cost of materiel and the economy demanded higher prices, he said there will be a revision of the prices later this month to account for the current economic downturn. The cost for the basic model will be about the same, he believes. Customized rifles will, of course, cost more. My plan is to buy a barebones 416 Ruger and have it customized somewhere else. for example, a barebones 375 H&H costs $899, I purchased a customized model with the same stock and tuning as the Safari Classics for $1399. A really good shooter and a beauty.
I work for a financial company, and some of our investments go to various outdoor companies (shooting sports, etc). So I have been lucky to meet with quite a few companies the last few weeks.

Sid PostI spoke with CZ USA about a Safari Classic Friday and inquired about the 2009 price increases. They said things were going up 5 to 10%.
Regarding caliber choices in the Safari Classics, they will make them in most common calibers. It's the non-custom production rifles that are made in fixed calibers. The others come in as bare actions so, they can be built in any caliber.

Sid

huskyThe biggest news from CZ is still to come...
I heard it through the Grape wine that CZ will launch a new action, all important measures like action lenght, bolt dimensions etc will be about 5% larger than the present 550 Magnum action.
hope that the rumour is correct!
15 December 2008, 14:49
shootawayOne thing I hope they do,which I doubt they will,is to build every action with the proper magazine box to match its caliber and with tighter bolt rail tolerances(like a Winchester). To feed and function properly everything has to be within the right tolerances. If not so,they could be improved but never made perfect, IMO.

eurocentricHere's a good one: I purchased two of the Safari Classics in .404 Jeffery, as well as 100 rounds of A-Square ammo, softs and solids, made exclusively for CZ (the cases actually had the CZ stamped on them). None of the rounds would chamber in either rifle. I had to ship the ammo back and CZ quietly refunded me the purchases. CZ has discontinued the sale of the .404 Ammo, since multiple vendors make it and sell it, the list they sent me included Superior Ammo, A-Square, Norma.
I'd bet anyone they did use A-Square for the specs on the 416 Taylor, just like they did for the .500 Jeffery.

They have been promising a LH model for a few years now. Their line is allways it is in the works for next year and next year comes and goes with no LH model. So, I would not hold my breath.

Ron CreusenDavid,
I have been informed by CZ USA, last week that a left hand action is to be expected by February 2009 in .375 H&H. Let's hope this time it's correct..

Black FlyWhen Ganyana told us that Norma was making 416 Taylor, another Taylor shooter and I theorized that CZ would be coming out with a Taylor. Wow, even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while, we were right. I hope this new move is successful for them.

MileHighShooterThe 416 Taylor and 9.3x64 are VERY interesting additions! The x64 more then anything, if they make them available here in the states. Maybe that would make components more readily available.
I still would like to see CZ bring the standard 550 line out in 404 Jeff, instead of the 2500$ Safari Classic. If they put the 404 in the standard Safari along with the Lott, Rigby and 375 H&H for around 1-1200$ they'd have one hell of a hot seller. Of course this would also make our new 404-375 wild cat rather useless!
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

eurocentricI will get the 9.3x64 and the 425 westley richards, both are part of the regular line, i dont remember what he called the new line, Safari Express or something similar. he also said smaller calibers like 270 and 30-06 will be included along with a bunch of 300-calibers.
they will carry the ammo as well, for any calibers that do not have any current manufacturers.

Which begs the questions, what specs will the Norma produced 416 Taylor be made to? I'll wait for all the dust to settle before proceeding with my build, Oh & for the exchange rate to hopefully perk up a bit.

RIPCZ already has a factory synthetic stocked rifle on dealers' shelves in calibers like .458 Lott and .375 H&H.
It looks similar in style to the "American" straight-combed walnut stock but is slimmer in the forend. Seems perfect to me.
Great additional feature.

Can't get that with a Ruger RSM.

Ouch ... then we're in for dimensional troubles. Whilst the A-Square version of the 416Taylor should chamber and fire in 'traditionally built' 416Taylors ... current commercial brass (eg Bertram) and dies will not be suitable for the A-Square version. A Lee 416Taylor die set for example used to form cases from 458WinMag will not push the shoulder far enough back to chamber in the shorter A-Square version.
Why also would CZ have used A-Square's version of the 500Jeffery when the Kynoch version was standardised and appears in CIP documentation?
Cheers...

Thomas JonesSome of this is certainly good news.
I rather like the new stock on the CZ 550 american.
I would like one in 9.3X62 or either of the ruger cartridges.
I would want to put a set of NEGC sights on it, a 3 position winchester safty and get rid of that silly ass set trigger.
All that would get expensive, but i fine rifle I would have...tj3006

kaschiThe 9.3x64 is a very exciting addition and should have been a chambering in CZ rifles years ago. better late than never, though. They could really make my day by adding the 8x68S as well.
17 December 2008, 06:41
surestrikeI see that they are chambering the .338 Lapua in one of the high dollar safari magnums.
I wish they would do that rifle in composite stock and keep it at the $1000 USD level. What a major cross canyon elk swatter that would be!
18 December 2008, 06:33
kaschiI agree with you surestrike. Wonder why they haven't?

huskyConcerning .416 Taylor ammunition;
As i understand it, Norma will CIP a version of .416 Taylor that fits most of all the different .416 Taylor´s chamberings that are around to day. so at last, there will be ONE .416 Taylor that is CIP.

Dave BushGuys, maybe this is right but CZ chambering a .416 Taylor when they already chamber the .416 Remingon? Does that make any sense?
I really hope they chamber the 9.3X64. That would be way cool and like MileHighShooter says, maybe 9.3X64 brass would be way easier to get. Count me in on this one.

Actually there should be one .416 Taylor cartridge that is CIP certified…that being A-Square’s original SAAMI submission for the .416 Taylor. I can’t imagine that CIP would generate a new .416 Taylor specification that is different from the SAAMI specification for the .416 Taylor. However, if SAAMI never certified A-Square’s .416 Taylor specification then a certified specification doesn’t exist and whatever CIP certifies and publishes will henceforth be the .416 Taylor specification.
To the best of my recollection - according to the .416 Taylor website - A-Square originally correctly spec’ed the SAAMI submission utilizing the .458 WinMag parent case, as was done when the .416 Chatfield-Taylor was first developed, and then A-Square began manufacturing ammunition which used the .338 WinMag case as the parent case thereby causing the incompatibility (the .458 WinMag derivative being slightly longer than the .338 WinMag derivative).
Norma will be required to manufacture the .416 Taylor to the current SAAMI specification if it exists or to the forthcoming CIP specification.
Oh well….the circle continues to turn.
