Poor Mans Double Finally Strikes
Sometime back I wrote of a Ugartechea SxS 12 guage slug gun that I picked up here in Houston. Well after a few attempts I finally had my chance and was successful on a 220# boar at a friend's ranch outside Uvalde. I was sitting in a little ground blind that I cobbled together along a rear fenceline where it was very evident hogs had been passing between the ranches. Late in the morning I heard grunting and noise in the brush behind me. When I finally spotted him, his nose was in the air and then he was off running broadside at around 30 yards. As I swung the gun he turned and ran straight away. I fired through some light brush and hit him a few inches right of his tail. At the shot all was quiet and I could not see him. I walked towards where he had been and there he was about 45 yards from where I fired. The slug was "laying" just inside his jowl. The 1 oz Rottweil Brenneke MP slug just flattened him. This gun is a bunch of fun.

Congratulations on a good hunt and a fine shot.

Did the slug mushroom? How well does that double SGN group at different ranges? I have seen one of those and it looked like a good gun.

OldsargeYup, it is definately time for a pith helmet and mustache! Africa in Texas on the cheap. Wait until the good ol' boys at the 777 see this . . . and don't forget the bitters.

The front of the slug was "smeared" some and had some "dings" on it but really look pretty much intact. I tried numerous 1oz slugs in the gun and they all shot pretty mediocre. Then I read on another site that the gun was supposedly regulated with the Brenneke load. The MP load that I shoot is a lower pressure/velocity load (around 1400 fps I believe) and it groups two pairs inside 2" at 50 yards. I have not shot groups any farther out. The sights lay the slugs 1" over the aim point at that range. It is a slick little piece with 25" barrels, drift adjustable rear sight with a raised bead front, double triggers, silvered receiver with a boar engraved on each side and really nice wood to boot. Also, it only weighs a bit under 7 pounds. I own many but I don't think I have ever had as much fun with a gun than I do with this one. Folks at the range gather around and are amazed at how well it groups. I gave $450 for it at Collectors Firearms here in Houston, one of the few deals I have seen there.
Ed,....Collectors Firearms is DEFINATELY NOT known for getting good deals!!!

But it sure is a fun place to go browse....I think they have a little bit of everything in that shop!
Does it have rifled barrels? or is it a smooth bore? Any pics of the gun?
It is a smoothbore with, as best I can measure, around .003" of choke. I do not have a picture of mine. I am in the stone age with cameras and photos... Here is a picture of one that I found back when I bought it. Mine does not have the checkered panels which I believe were added to this one. Otherwise, it is identical.
