470 NE reloading press
470 NE reloading press
I tried to load some bullets for my new 470 and I have an old RCBS rockchucker press. The press is too short for the length of the loaded round. What press can be used for 470 NE
Thanks

JBoutfishnWhile there are many "high dollar" presses out there, I found that the Rock Chuckar Supreme for $120± works very well.

Jeff AlexanderThe Redding UltraMag works for me! You can get one for around 200 from Midway or Midsouth.

zimbabweI load on a Rockchucker and it requires you grind away part of the lip on the 470 shellholder. You only need a half circle to gain max pull on the rim. Take a flexible shaft grinder and grind the lip away leading in and you can then slip a loaded round or case with bullet for seating up in the die and slip into the shellholder. Ten minute mod and easier to do and use than it is to say. I've loaded all my 470NE's on such a press rather than buy another one I don't need.

510wellsI (also) went with the AmmoMaster as My Coax was "usable" but a little too short to be comfortable.

Constant change is here to stay.

MJinesI just bought a Lee Classic Cast Press and it is working great for both 470 NE and 500/416 NE.

GeronomoI second the Rock Chucker Supreme. Plenty of opening for the nitro express rounds without the long throw of the bigger 50 BMG presses. Besides I kinda like old green.

mstarlingI also use the standard Rock Chucker much as does Zimbabwe as he explains above.
It really ain't hard.
I'm not all that cheap, but after nearly 40 years with this Rock Chucker I really don't see the need for another press.

Hell I can relate. My Rock Chucker is from the mid 70's.In fact RCBS stuff dont seem to break or where out.I tried to get them to refinish my stuff a year back as the paint job is looking kind of bad.

iamgeneI bought a RCBS Ammomaster for my 470, so far so good, plenty of clearance. Using the Hornady Lock N Load adapter so it's been a snap for the 470 and my service rifle loading. Got a good price from Buffalo Arms.
