Best way to carry the big cases?

Fergus_BaileyBest way to carry the big cases?
Guys
What do you suggest as the best way to carry spare ammo for big bores while hunting (eg the 500 A2 and 450 Ackley in my case)? Some time back I, bought a leather pouch which holds 10 rounds in a line (side-by-side) on my belt. I like the “classic†look, but have found in operation its not very practical as the leather tends to tarnish the cases and after a few days the leather is really beginning to grip the case making it difficult to remove a round. It may be that I just got a poor quality product, so perhaps I shouldnt write off this style of carry? Or perhaps one of the nylon / elastic products will function better?
Thanks
Fergus

N E 450 No2I can highly recommend products by
http://www.murrayleather.comI use the leather elastic models for several different calibres. I have left the round in the holders for 30 days or more with out any problems.

Michael RobinsonFergus,
I use the Murray 8 round leather-looped carriers for my .500 A2.
They need breaking in, but are well-oiled (as leather must be) and do not tarnish the cases.
Or maybe I just shoot 'em up too fast to notice.

500grainsNo offense to guys who like Murray Leather, but the ones I have are rather cheesy compared to Africase.

Michael Robinson500grains, those Africases look very nicely made and finished.
I don't like the style though. FWIW, I don't like buttons or snaps or covers or flaps in the way of a quick reload. Too much to fumble with. I don't like anything but open air between my fingers and the rounds in my belt.
I see Africase makes an open-top model, but it's capacity is only five rounds.

ChopperGuyAfricase now makes a 6 round open case. I have one for my 9.3x74R double and used it during our deer season to try it out.
Works great and is made caliber specific. I can recommend it highly.
I also have one of the Boyt/Cabela's models. It is a bit short for the 3 1/4" rounds like my 500/416. They tend to work themselves out fairly easy. I've been trying to figure some way to make it more secure as I want to use it in Mozambique on a Cape Buff hunt in wet conditions where I'd prefer not to have a lot of leather involved.
Good luck.

Maltese FalconCheck jeff's outfitters which was formerly Cape outfitters they have pouches similiar to those offered by africase.
http://www.jeffsoutfitters.comPrices are reasonable enough to get one for evaluation and if it doesn't suit or not up to your standard, you are not out a lot of coin and can go to one of the other sites,.

Africase will make a custom case to your specifications. Just sketch it out and send it to them with a couple of dummy cartridges, and specify what size belt it should fit. I have done that with half a dozen knife sheaths and they came out great.

500grainsThose Jeffs cases look just like ones I bought from Cape Outfitters. They are cheaper than the Africase ones, but also the leather is only half as thick.

Maltese FalconThanks for the heads up, did wonder, but like I said if you buy and they suit, if not the outlay is minor and it would give one a chance to try this mode of shell transport.

These were Westley Richards ammo pouches.
I also have some Galco ones which are better made.
The Africase ones look from the photos well made.
