They are called "Field guns".
I have seen 0ga Punt gun brass. I would not want to be in the punt boat when it went off.

LRH270I always thought that "gauge" derived from the number of round lead balls of a given size it took to equal one pound.
Thus, it would take 12 balls of 12 gauge to equal a pound, 8 balls of 8 gauge, etc.
A 1 gauge size lead ball would weigh one pound.
I think a zero-gauge is therefore impossible?????

mzr3ytI have heard of something called the Gun Barrel Proof Act of 18xx.....I can't find a copy of the entire document, but apparently it lists gauges larger than 0 gauge for use in punt guns. I believe they use letter designations instead of numbers. Is anyone familiar with "letter gauges"?
