.458 Win Mag - Safe to use in a treestand?
Just curious if anyone has shot one from a treestand. I want to hunt whitetails this year with one and was wondering if anyone had experience with one from on high. I use an Ol Man Grand Vision and it's a stable platform. But I havn't tested the recoil of the .458 in it. Any thoughts appreciated.

There are people who fall out of tree stands using .243's. The real issue is the stability of your treestand and the precautions you take rather than the caliber you shoot.

I shot my first moose standing on a vertical ladder with my 458 Win Mag and a 400gr bullet

I never noticed the moose about 90 degrees to my right until I was almost at the top of the ladder. The idea was to get up into the "tower" and have a seat in a chair.

There was no problem with recoil in terms of risking to fall down the ladder

I've shot both my .416 Rigby and .510/460Wby (in a Ruger #1 by the way) out of a tree stand with no adverse effects. I've had my 50BMG & .577 T-Rex up there also but 'opportunities' didn't present themselves.

Are you afraid it will knock you out of the treestand or the treestand out of the tree?

The recoil of the .458 is not bad, unless you're shooting something like a Ruger #1, or another gun that is too light.
