trapmonkeyneed a bit of advice on a bit of chinese firedrill
My local jurisdiction will not allow me to have a pure rifle, but I reckon I could have a 20g shotgun with rifle barrels.
So who should i go globally to get something like this? and what caliber should i get? I am hoping to get something in a caliber that i can shoot up to 200m acurrately with and will still do for dangerous game as well. Then I can use the darn thing as a do everything rifle.
what do you guys think? Not looking for an expensive engraved gun, just well made and hardy. Thank so much for the advice in advance.
I can't wait to hear responses... I've been racking my brains for hours on how to get around these funny rules.
cheers, TM

GeorgeSThompson/Center Encore uses easily interchangeble barrels. Buy one in 20ga., then buy a .375 or .416 barrel, if legal.
I don't feel that a break-open single-shot is optimal for hunting DG (I mean real DG (lion, leopard, brown bears, Cape buffalo, et al., not black bears and boar)), but a well-placed bullet from a .375 H&H or .416 Remington has been proven effective.

Blaser. Shot caliber is 28ga you can pair it with .375 H&H or .416 Rem.

If you are talking about a shotgun w/rifled barrels, It will NOT shoot 200yds. If you are talking about a shotgun w/extra barrels you WILL have a winner.

Idaho Sharpshooterbuy a decent one, like the Huglu, and have 20 gauge rifled choke tubes fitted to it...?
Then just test drive a couple brands of slugs.

PNWHunterI live in a firearm restriction area in SW Washington. During the modern rifle elk season I have to use either black powder or 12 guage shotgun with slugs around my house. I've got a BPS pump that I use that is accurate enough to about 50 yeards using a cylinder choke. On my short list of things I want is a rifled barrel with a rib for a low powered scope.
I think this combo would be good out to 100 yards or a little farther with the right load, but 200 with any slug gun is pushing it.
Take a look at the Ithaca Deerslayers, I've heard they are good slug guns (but I've never used one, so take it FWIW).

fourboreI suggest you look at the Savage 220 bolt. A great gun or so I have heard. I never shot one, but this is what I have heard and been thinking it might be able to take some pretty heavy loads. And the new, hi tech copper solid slugs are accurate and deadly. Those I have used. Savage makes a 12 gauge too.
This is a rifled barrel bolt shotgun that takes a scope. Built strong about 7.5 pounds I think. Medium weight.
Here is a link:
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/models/You want the 220F. This is as close to a rifle as you can get in a slug gun.

jro45I'd say you got some good choices. My choice was all ready used. Its the one about inter change the barrel that T/C has.
