CZ 550Ruger 9.3x74R
I just picked up the 2006 Ruger catalogue at work today. They're now chambering the Number One in 9.3x74R. I always wanted to have one of mine rechambered for this, but now I guess I'll just go out and buy one.

smallfryPlease tell me its in the sporter and not the tropical. It should be light as can be. I had a 9.3X74R in a R1 years ago but no longer. I have been contemplating making another.
I am back from a long Hiatus... or whatever.
Take care.

GeorgeInNePaHey Andy, how's it going? You need a Lott not a 9.3

smallfryDamn it! It would be nice if it weighed around 7 1/2lbs. Talk about a serous cartridge though.

VKG10I am not very familiar with the 9,3x74, but will it be like the 375HH in performance?
I am looking for a bigbore to take the largest European game, (maybe buffalo as well)
So maybe the 9,3x74 will be the solution?.

CZ 550Not too shabby George. I need a Lott like I need a hole in the head. The Ribgy is fine for the task. Keep in touch.

MLGI don't see it on Ruger's website but maybe it will only appear there in 2006?

Bill/OregonOh, damn the news. I have wanted a No. 1 in this caliber for years. I guess I will have to sell the .405 as my sweetie won't understand the need for two single-shot medium bores in the gun safe ...
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

ConIf Ruger has 9.3 barrels for the No1 then I need their email address pronto! A Ruger M77 in 9.3x62 cant be that far away and Ruger is a gutsy enough manufacturer to do it. Need to start filling their email box.
Cheers...

JohnTheGreekThe problem is that Ruger has effectively discontinued the small bore "Express rifles". If they would build an "Express" in 9,3x62 and a lighter weight #1 in 9,3x74R, that would be damn neat. Even better would be a 9,3x74R or larger calibre double on a Gold Label frame.

Just tell her that the .405 is lonely and needs a true companion that it can relate to and which understands it!

No it's loaded about like the 9.3x62 is. It's enough for anything in Europe though.

D99I searched the Ruger website and didn't see it. Obviously the catalog is more up to date.
Blaser takes a year to update their website after something new is out.

I have an idea the No1H chambered for 9.3X74R will weigh in at around 8.5, to 8.7 lbs bare. I don't know what experience you have with 9.3X74R with proper loads, but I certainly don't want mine in a 7.5Lb rifle! I have two double rifle chambered for this round, and at 8.7 lbs for one, and 8.2 lbs the other one, there is a definite need for a good recoil pad!
This thing pumps out a 286 gr bullet at 2300 fps. That is only 200 fps less than a 375 H&H with a 300 gr bullet, and only 100 fps less than the 375 H&H flanged. with only 14 gr diference in bullet weight, as well.

The news that Ruger is coming out with the 9.3X74R in a Ruger No1 H is the best news from Ruger in years! I'll be talking to some one tomorrow! and when I get it if it weighes 8.7, it will get a good recoil pad to replace that red tire tread thing that comes on the No1s!

smallfryMacD37 8.5~ isnt so bad. For some reason I was thinking the tropical was really heavy. My 9.3X74R was light on a Ruger number one. It had a 22" brl custom stocks and a custom quarter rib. Scoped and loaded however it probably weighed closer to 9. It is good news... its sad enough we have so few rimmed cartridges. The 9.3X74R is a very serious cartridge. I can’t think of many woods rifles that would be a better choice. The 9.3X74R certainly makes a better chioce than the 45-70 IMO

D99With a trigger job and a 3-12x56 Schmit and Bender this would the be the ultimate bait hog or bear rifle.

GroveI would think that with Ruger's past relationship with Hornady that if the 9.3 cal. were on the table, the next logical choice would be a M77 in 9.3x64 Breneke.
Consider, that Hornady already makes brass for the 376 Styer which is nothing more than a shortened 64 Breneke case. Making the full case would take very little if nothing. That is unless they just took the Styer case and pinched it down to 9.3 ... which would give something between a 9.3x62 and the 9.3x64. An interesting idea for another line of cartridges to go head to head with the WSM family.
Regardless, if Ruger came out with a M77 in 9.3x64 Breneke, I would be placing an order for one tonight.

D99I like Ruger, but did you say Ruger and logical in the same sentence?
I hope your right, but I am not going to hold my breath.

John,
Instead of the 9.3x74, how about it being done in 404 Jeff.

PCRuger should bring out the .500 Nitro as standard, or a collection of the Nitro rounds, now finding the money I need to buy them if they bring them out is a different story

If they were going to bring out a .40 bore, I'd rather see a rimmed round in the double such as .450-400 or even .500-416. I doubt we will see any of them, though.

degoinswell, they made the 405 slim and trim so maybe they'll do the same for the 9.3. i hope so. if they do, i will have to have one.
