bulldog563Recoil devices?
What are the best devices to lessen felt recoil. I am looking for things that do not go on the rifle as when hunting the recoil doesn't affect me. I just want something I can use at the range to get some more shots in. I have heard the PAST recoil shield mentioned. Any thoughts?

gas57A 25 pound bag of lead shot between your shoulder and the rifle. a PAST recoil shield, a remove-able muzzle brake, a lead sled, or make your rest so you can shoot standing up.
I am sure there are more!
Good shooting!!!

HunterJimBulldog,
The PAST Magnum recoil pad will about double the number of shots you can fire from the bench before your eyes cross.

JPKThe past pads let you practice off hand or off sticks and won't change your POI. I like the shotgun style. It offers less protection but doesn't change the feel of how the gun fits as the bigger pads do for me.
As for shooting off the bench, this needs to be done only infrequently since there are no benches in the feild. The bag in front of your shoulder is ok for getting your rifle sighted in, but double check check your zero without it before you pronounce your rifle ready to go. I have experienced POI change when shooting without it.

A patented recoil pad with multiple springs in it and a patented muzzle brake. A thread cap is available for when you remove the brake.

Dan HTry the Caldwell Lead Sled. It's a rest you weight with bags of shot...might be helpful working up loads without pain.

These things are awsome!! Just don't use too much weight - it may put too much stress on the stock and possibly crack it.
