Demonical
1989 production .375H&H that was rechambered to .416RM.
When this pic was taken, it had Lynx scope rings. Those have been replaced by
Warne fixed med height rings; the scope is a
Vari-X III 1.75-6x.
Close-up of my "custom" barrel band...

I have acquired a
Talley barrel band and I have some mods planned. On order is a
McMillan CZ Express stock.
I am going to get the stock reduced to 23.5", when the barrel band is installed. The McMillan stock will be properly inletted and the action bedded at that time.
I am intending to use the rifle as a bear and moose gun, here in Alberta and maybe some day take it to Africa.

I had couple of those. That is their ole' set trigger, but they also included regular trigger shoe in cute lil' green sack. One could use that set unit as standard unit or push it forward to set it. The pull was long, horrendous and turning that screw behind rear sq. bridge with goofy skeleton screwdriver didn't help me any. The wood unlike what you see on typical 550 now (my 550 FS kal 9,3 has what could only be described as stained sap w/o any figure) was interesting looking walnut from foothills of Carpathians. The checkering was horrendous, but as my pal used to say at least one knew it was done by hand of some Vietnamese guy working in Uhersky Brod at that time.
I replaced my ZKKs with lithe Heym SR-20 'Classic Safari' in cal .375 H&H and never looked back. You know: Timney trigger, nicer wood, Ole' English pad, better bedding,......It's 'head and shoulders' above those Commie guns.
PS. My guns were early 90s Action Arms imports. I heard rumors that early guns including the ones with that neat lil' pop-up peep sight in rear bridge were of much better quality. From the pics I could tell that one piece mount with Carl Zeiss Jena scope was nice setup indeed, but it required scope with rail and if something happened to the original scope I'm not sure Western Euro unit would fit that rig (Commies had some weird 26mm? tube diameter) or something. I don't know since I have never handled one.

I am envious, jealous, yes,I am..
The ZKK must be seen and apreciated for what it is ! When comparing a Heym, or any other, to the ZKK you are saying a Mercedes Benz is better than a Volkswagen ? yes the Merc is better! but it's not really a valid comparison.
Do you know what I paid in Africa for my ZKK's ? Nothing, they were dirt cheap, in fact in the early 70's a ZKK cost 139 South African rands.
Render that to the exchange rate of any of the foreign currencies and you see that they were giving them away! when a Heym costs the price of a farm !
The ZKK was and still is a budget workhorse, crude, somewhat dysfunctional in setup but very very good value for money, in fact they make wonderful platforms for customization.
As to that old Zeiss Jena, well I view them as curiosa only, totally dysfunctional !

zimbabweNot at home so can't post a picture but I have Jon Speed's 375 602 that he last used in Tanzania. It's actually my favorite 375 and has taken numerous heads for me in Africa. Has only been modified by cutting barrel to 21" and installing barrel band front swivel. He had removed the front swivel and plugged the hole and checkered over. Has a new ERA front ramp with red flourescent elevation adjustable bead that made zeroing with the shorter barrel a snap. I Have fully glass bedded it. Shoots beautiful groups. I plugged the hole in the bolt knob with a piece of wood I picked up in a camp in Zimbabwe and checkered it then I turned a 3/16" dowel from a Warthog tusk (from the first animal I killed in Zimbabwe with this rifle on my first safari) and put it in the center of the wood insert in the knob a la the old Marlin emblem. Really LIKE this rifle.

Paolo9,5x73I wouldn't mind owning one of them late 60s early 70s 602s with one piece mount and Zeiss Jena scope. I heard rumors that few were made in cartidge worthy of that big action (ie. Kal..416 Rigby)

Great rifle mate

Just wondering about the mounts, hopefully they are not the aluminium Sweedemounts?
I had such an aluminium set up on my first ZKK 602 in 375 H&H (came with the rifle), and they just collapsed after fifty rounds.

Yes, the are aluminium rings. I buy this rifle in this summer and I have not test it so mutch. 602 was 375HH and then was made 1988. 1999 built P-O Stenmark in Skellefteå this rifle in 450 Rigby.
I shall build, construct the laminat stock and I must grind/sharp too the beginning. So, 10 yers have the Sweedemounts in aluminium been complete. You have right, aluminium is not good in this time.

Here is a top view of my M602 after installation of Jim Brockman's Gen III aperture sight and fore sight on this rifle's second barrel, a 23" Lother-Walther .375 H&H. The safety is a M70 style three-position.
