MingbogoCZ 550 Safari extractor
Hi,
The extractor of my CZ 416 Rigby has a bent shape body, which is not quite straight and parallel to the bolt. See the attached picture for a reference. I thought that this is normal when I first got it. Now that I just got another CZ 550 Safari in 458 Winchester, I realize that my new CZ has a much straighter extractor body so I suspect that this 416 extractor must have too much bend in the body. Is this really normal? It seems to function just fine. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ming

KMuleinAKMing - after reading your post and viewing the photo, I peeked at photos of my CZ550 in 416 Rigby and see the extractor is straight - My rifle functioned flawlessly (past tense as rifle is in process of becoming a 500A2)as far as feed / extraction / ejection - others with more real world experience will be able to tell you if a bent extractor is / will become a problem in your rifle - KMule

DrScottMing,
My CZ550 375H&H has an extractor that looks just like the one in your picture. I thought it might be damaged too but it has not failed to function yet. I am interested to hear what the experts say.

RobgunbuilderLooks strange, but if it extracts properly, who cares!=Rob
First off, I don't know what is correct. They may bend some of them at the factory to get it to work properly.
For the 2 550's I have one is bent more than the other. I wouldn't worry about it.

WachtelMine has a slightly bent extractor too. Has functioned flawlessly so far.

MingbogoThanks guys! It's good to know that it is normal. By the way, I called CZ-USA today to ask them about this issue. I talked to Mike Eagleshield (master gunsmith?) and he basically tells that if it works then they would not deal with it. He was quite arrogant and he made me feel like they don’t need a customer like me. I asked him if I could order another extractor and he said no. I think that I will not expect much more out of CZ-USA from now on. I have dealt with Ruger, Winchester, Weatherby, and numerous custom gunsmiths and I have never been dissatisfied with the service like this before. Anyway, I need to shoot more of the rifle to see if this gonna be a problem or not. Cheers! Ming

aHunterMine sure looks straight, but is thicker on the front part.
Try CZs Homepage, I mean the European contact adress.

NickuduIn my opinion an extractor with such a bend is the product of their being too lazy to fit it correctly. They have elected to bend it to achieve the desired claw/boltface relationship rather than taking the time to fit it properly. While it may seem to function O.K., you certainly do not have much room to depress the extractor body against the bolt, should you wish to remove the extractor. Should the claw get hung up on an overly thick cartridge rim, bolt closure could be adversely affected. Only with a cartridge in the chamber with a too shallow extractor groove, would I expect to see a bend such as this OR, if a claw is a touch too wide and rides too firmly in an otherwise proper extractor groove. Bottom line, I would have it checked by someone who knows what he is doing. Bring along some dummy rounds too.

dempseyMine is bent as well, but not as much. As stated if it works and mine does I'm not too concerned. However the treatment you received from CZ is dissapointing. I like their rifles and feel them a better value than the remchesters. Hopefully they don't screw it up with poor customer service.

WillI should keep my mouth shut, but...
Good grief. You pay only $600 for a damn good rifle. What is it you want for $600?
If I was CZ I don't think I would want to spend a couple hundred dollars worth of shop time on fixing what ain't broke.

Paul KMing:
I have 4 550CZ actions and all the extracters are bent like yours. I wouldn't worry to much about it. After reading your post this mourning I took a close look at mine and they all mate up good up front at the extraction point where it counts. I also have had a few conversations with Mike at CZ USA in Kansas City and he is a real asshole.

MingbogoThanks guys. Even though it functions fine but it still bothers me to see it curve mainly because my other CZ 550 is not like that. I just wanted to make sure this is not gonna be a problem especially down the road when I turn it into a custom big bore. Have fun guys. Cheers! Ming
